Thanks for posting these great photos Matthias. Expanding on Bruce’s post (and I’m looking forward to seeing this one fly again, having been waiting for restoration to start since first seeing it at Tangmere over 25 years ago) I have mixed feelings about it. In some way it is almost a shame to ‘rebuild’ it, as most of the original material will inevitably discarded after being used for patterns.
This was a graphic demonstration of what can happen when a pilot misjudges a forced landing at Reno after an engine problem. There were a tense few minutes until it was announced that he was okay (thankfully) and I’m sure this event contributed to the decision to cancel the Unlimited Gold final due to be held afterwards because of strong winds.
They should have Skuad it early on
I was talking about the pure sale of the Ju-88, not making it airworthy.
What sort of price was the Ju-88 as a static exhibit going for, roughly?
Seeing as there has never been one sold on the open market, there is no such thing as as a “price” for a static Ju-88.
I think another runway extension would be called for, Mr Jones.
I hate bad, sloppy or lazy grammar. I hate it when people, in the queue with me at the cafe, etc, asking “can I get a…”
“…..tall skinny decaf latte extra hot to go”, perhaps? 😀
(that’s American for “coffee”)
Hate to be obstinate, but trust me, the word “aero” simply isn’t used in the U. S. other than as “aerobatics.”
….which everyone seems to call “acro”
Reading back through this thread also got me wondering what happened to Flood and Willow?
Best not to go there. Suffice it to say that Flood received a lifetime ban.
Willow still pops in from time to time.
He must have said it to keep his wife happy, as he was married to a Canadian. 🙂
Rather disturbing and unnecessary to see this old thread dredged up, a decade after its last post. Mods, can it be locked please?
Wesland Wapiti looks like it could be fun !!
Don’t the Indians already have one?
I thought the US restriction on proprietery secrets with vintage types has been quashed by the Greg Herrick – Fairchild 45 drawings legal case

“The new law invalidates the trade secret claim for aircraft from that era”
I hate to be really boring, and I know a static replica is under way, but a Whirlwind would do it for me, especially if I could own and fly it.
Just an idle thought, but I wonder if it would even be possible these days, even with money being no object, to recreate engines that would be acceptable to the CAA.
Extinct is difficult. It’s surprising how many airframes still exist.
It’s also surprising how many are truly extinct, I’m sure I could name you a hundred types without too much effort.
I’d like to go to Chicago (chequebook in hand), knock on Boeing’s front door and say to them “I’d like to order one of your Model 314 Clippers please.”
