‘Dolly’ wasn’t lost at all, I know exactly where to find it. 🙂 I saw it a few months ago in fact, in all its polished glory! And I thought it was a US aircraft, not a ‘UK B-25″. Built in the US, spent most of its like there, it just happened to give us the pleasure of spending a few years in the UK for us all to enjoy.
Two and a half went to Italy, one in the Caproni Museum, one at Vigne di Valle, and a spare fuselage is still in storage I believe.
Some years ago, Merlin 70 posted some of his father-in-law’s colour shots of them whilst still in service.

Got a few hours in that old beast eh….

It doesn’t have any radiators fitted…. might get a bit toasty…
Radiators and oil cooler were there, it was just missing the ducting from the chin inlet.

You mean ‘couldn’t care less’?
He’s speaking American. 🙂

Also I don’t recall seeing a beer tent at Chino, but I wasn’t looking for one.
They did have a booth selling Bud Light, but you’re right, I didn’t see anywhere selling beer.

I believe all US aircraft supplied to the UK had USAAC numbers?
Not those supplied by Curtiss under direct purchase (rather than Lend Lease) AFAIK

I too photographed 44-90438 when it passed through Duxford. Interesting that in the view of it above you can see the long lost fin of the Hermes in the background. Was that item accidentally scrapped or is it still lurking somewhere on site waiting to be reunited with the fuselage?
Tim
Years ago I was told that it ended up in a landfill over on the north side of the airfield. Sad, it really would improve the fuselage as an exhibit to have the fin re-attached.
No sorry, looked at the cowl, still can’t figure it out.
