Allegedly not, although I remain unconvinced that they didn’t just paint strip it, give it a bit of a shine and send it back again from the US 😀
A type now sadly extinct in the UK 🙁
Also another rumour that the white Vulcan is to be ‘removed’ i.e. scrapped.
‘White Vulcan’ – wasn’t that one scrapped 20-odd years ago?
Great captions too! 🙂
I’m not sure how much they’ll spend on ‘art’ this time around, but they’re revamping some old 1930s buildings to use as a café apparently. Presumably one of those between the main car park and the Grahame-White Factory
The RAF are not in the business of organising airshows, it is purely peripheral to their main activities. In 2015 they will be holding a single, fairly small one-day event at Cosford as their sole airshow.
With Cosford (and the possibility of picking up more hangars there in the future) and Hendon, I think that the present footprint of the museum is fine. They don’t need to be in the business of organising airshows, that isn’t in their remit and nor should it be. The main issue with Cosford, as we have found lately, is that the runway is too short for large aircraft to be delivered by air in the current, risk-averse (post Haddon-Cave) climate.
A new entrance makes sense, the current one, tucked away in the corner of the car park and requiring you to go up a floor to come down again, makes no sense. I never bother with it these days (unless I need change for parking) and simply walk in through the old one as I always have done for decades.
The other thing it really needs is to have the exhibits shuffled around so they are in some sense of chronological order once again, the present jumble is illogical and makes no sense whatsoever.
And I presume part of the money is to be used to fill in the gap between Milestones of Flight and the Bomber Command Hall with a proper building, in place of the tent-like structure they have there at present.
Who says they don’t do topsides? 😀
I’ve not heard of anything like that being planned
I am sure that ARGOS will be working on a full identification.
Can I use my Nectar points? 😀
I wonder if they’ve taken the phone off the hook at EK this afternoon?
It may well have a wing ID plate.
But can that provide a tie-up to the RAF serial? And would the CAA accept a wing as the basis for an identity for a rebuild in any case?
I’d have thought that a serial (or ‘last three’) written in pencil on the inside of any remaining inspection panels is more likely to provide a clue as to its identity than any ID plates.
The CWHM Lancaster ‘s attendance at EK tomorrow has been canned as they’ve said they won’t be ready in time.
