Pakistan is receiving suh things as Orions and other such weapons to fight the so called war on terror, btw weapons that India has not really cared much to make a fuss about simply because they wont change much, besides much of those weapons ome in the form of millitary aide not purchases. F-16s are a different story, they are a mojor weapon purchase and INdia will lobby hard to get it at least delayed, hello India has done this very well for at least the last 5 years now, remember Bush saying “no no f-16s”, besides no F-16 is confirmed yet, only pakdef reports and newspaper reports, no final decision yet, that is India’s strategy, delay the deal as much as possible.
As far as Soviet Union comment by another member, Pakistan was not the catalyst to its downfall, the reason for the SU’s downfall are numerous but it is really because their soialist system was failing and could not keep up with the west, the Afgan war only speeded up the downfall.

well, the reception Rumsfeild got from Indian PM and FM seemed to indicate they were very concerned about the Orions, even the Indian Navy chief stated this. Indias strategy is not to “delay” the deal, it is to stop it, we shall see the results of this in a month or so.

However in INdia’s case, it feels like it can derail the F-16 deal or delay it at least, it has been delaying it for years now and wants to continue to do so, just because Pakistan annot block Indian buying sprees does not mean that India wont either, certainly when India was negotiating for the Phalcon, Pakistan made some noise with the US in vain but they thought that the US could tell Israel not to sell and they did it too.

Good point, Pakitan accepts this and quietly cracks on with its own purchases, however, lets not pretend that Indias US lobbying effort has been sucessful, almost monthly reports of new weapons delivery from US to Pak indicate that this is certainly not the case…..

Pakistan ships rescue 300 foreigners, locals in Maldives

(Kyodo) _ Two Pakistan Navy ships have rescued nearly 300 foreign tourists and locals in the Maldives after the low-lying islands were hit by tsunamis caused by a massive earthquake on Sunday, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Monday.
The Navy ship Tariq and the logistic support vessel Mast were on a goodwill visit to the Maldives when the tsunamis hit, Masood Khan told a weekly briefing.

Khan said that upon learning of the calamity, the ship’s captain offered help in search and rescue operations and was able to rescue nearly 300 foreigners and locals on an island about 100 kilometers west of the capital city of Male.

Pakistani vessels and helicopters are taking part in rescue and relief operations in the Maldives at the request of the government there, he said.

Thats a good point, but credit where credit is due, they have already put Bell 412s, UH-1s, AH-1s and C-130s in our colours amd landed them in Pakistan….
