T-50-0. Now that’s what I call testing to destruction (they even smashed the canopy!)

Interesting test equipment relacing the tail-fins. 😉

It’s 2012, every tom, dick and harry’s in the 5G game (at least conceptually) the only difference is that the PRC has more than enough $ to turn engineering concepts into reality- this has been observed with a whole host of other programs.

China’s assembling a medium class stealth fighter- I don’t see what the big surprise is, or why it’s so hard to swallow (for some at least).

‘J-21’ is probably going to look very similar to the AMCA, or vice versa, but there is a cautionary note in that such break-neck speed development may be susceptible to the pitfalls of ‘trying to run before you can walk’ as happened with their bullet train. Anyways, good luck to them.

but if you have about half a brain and put it to work a bit and A and B together, it is obvious that the things in situations like Syria (not to mention others) are rather not like they are presented to be, by a longshot.

I think what’s quite disturbing about (mainly western) media reporting on Syria is the lack of knowledge that this is predominantly a sectarian civil war, with Assad’s Alawite clan vs. the Sunnis. The Alawites are a Shia offshoot with strong links to Iran, Iraq and Lebanon, not to mention strategic allies of Russia and China- they are unlikely to roll-over so easily, hence the general lack of a coherent approach from the West and the UN.

It’s all very well to demonise Assad as a “mad man”, but remember his clan has overseen a stable and secular state in a very troubled region for many decades. The alternative may well be an islamist sunni pariah (the French fostered an Alawite power base since the 1920s precisely to keep an islamic sunni insurgency at bay), this would also be the last thing the Israelis would want- but this is not reported at all.

Tomorrow we find out if Morsi, a democratically elected islamist becomes president of Egypt (incidentally the ‘Muslim brotherhood’ are spiritual inspirers of Al-Qaeda) or will a military dictatorship, having already unilaterally amended the constitution and executive powers, stage a coup d’état.

How strange that the western press has gone all quiet on the ‘Arab Spring’. I won’t even start on how things are falling apart in Libya, but I think you get the gist of what I mean.

That vid capture is from the tv report (link below) and offers a rare glimpse of activities @ Akhtubinsk.
Also stated is that the bases’ facilities are being upgraded (including a new runway) for the start of PAK-FA’s state trials in a couple of years’ time:

The day and glimpse that all of us waited came and did not disappoint. For a moment, when I heard about the time she will be taken out from the bay, I though we may never get to see snaps of her in daylight for her first voyage…

Severodvinsk’s proximity to the Arctic Circle means the Sun never sets from late May to mid-July, so those pictures could well have been taken at the scheduled departure time of 02:00! A big thanks to Mr. Oleg Kuleshov!

I’ve never been a fan of the Kiev class and seeing the rusting, beached hull of Gorshkov a few years back made me wonder what the Indians have let themselves in for.
But I have to admit Sevmash did a fine job in the end and INS Vikramaditya certainly looks an impressive and handsome piece of kit. Kudos.
