Believe its moved to Biggin Hill but was back at Thruxton yesterday
“Plus the sale could finance another one” probably not by Phoenix – the hangar at Thruxton is being stripped out for another user
Used to work on Sir Winston at Chivenor & Brawdy & logged many happy hours flying in the back of Lady Clementine (WA 669?) with the likes of the legendary “Puddy” Catt while towing targets. My final flight (in Clementine) from Brawdy included Puddy doing a blue note run (very low) over the airfield. Happy days

Back home now & Finnish colours washed off, presumably up for sale.

How come the pilot in the cockpit shot isn’t wearing flying gloves?
Doh! Yes its back in in it’s Rhodesian colours Mark – apologies. When I work out how to post a picture from an I-Phone to this site I’ll do so (help please)
Now back in Canadian colours
Now back at Thruxton with the Texan
Will be returning early October apparently – will keep you posted
Hurricane & Texan just called for taxi – departing to Lydd so off to Finland they go I guess
Just got airborne from Thruxton, heading North, landed after 30 mins & a couple of low passes, how sexy is the purr of a mighty Merlin?
I had the great pleasure of briefly meeting Mr. Cruickshank many years ago & was instrumental in getting Bill Perrin to paint a picture of John’s Catalina on ops, this was for 210 Sqn at Kinloss in the late 90’s, while the station commander was very grateful, the sqn execs virtually blanked me. I remain in (occasional) contact with Bill though. John was a true gent, shame I was allowed only a couple of mins with him before he was hustled away (I was a lowly technician at the time so was not worthy!). Just an observation – no hard feelings.
There’s a few economical jet powered self sustainer gliders about now, none as self-launchers as far as I’m aware so perhaps there’s light at the end of the tunnel. You just need the will (& pots of money) to make something worthwhile work – sadly there’s neither in the UK aviation industry.
Blue skies

Thanks for that very lucid report Moggy – all the very best for a quick recovery & a prompt return to the sky. When I read accident reports I always try to imagine myself in the pilot’s position & wonder if I would have handled the situation differently (not any better I hasten to add) in the hope that if, heaven forbid, anything similar was to happen to me I’d run on automatic – who knows & I hope I never find out.
“so who knows ??”
Calibration duties perhaps?
Re-open Bicester! Save it from being buried under yet more unsustainable houses & give the service gliding associations somewhere decent again to hold the annual Inter-Service comps (not withstanding great events at Wittering & Keevil!)
