MZ305 was 466 Squadron from RAF Driffield on a test flight after maintenance, 4 RAAF Crew and 3 RAF, Report says aircraft stalled and the engines failed to respond immediately to the throttles due to congealed oil in the CSU’s. I am in contact with several relatives of the crew members – we don’t have precise location of the crash site but it was in outer circuit for landing and crash landed in fields where there was a large height difference (10-15ft) either side of a hedge approx 1 mile S.S.E. of Deopham Green airfield at 14:43hrs.

The crew were in 466 Squadron Halifax III NP975 HD-H lost 22nd December 1944, Pilot R F Feilberg killed and buried in Hotton War Cemetery, remainder of the crew captured to become P.o.W.’s.
Shot down by Richard Launer who passed away in 1997. Some relatives of the crew visited the crash site for NP975 in May this year and as the story says visited the wife/family of Richard Launer.

99+36 is now sat on a pole or two at Sinsheim, Germany close by the concorde and tu144. I believe that the other two have also survived and are preserved elsewhere in Germany.

    Me163 Wittering

I have had a quick glance through ‘War Prizes’ by PHIL BUTLER and have a possibility for you.
191060 ??? – RAF reg VF241:- is mentioned as being flight tested, towed behind a spitfire to altitude and released. Landings were made at RAF Wittering until 15th November 1947 the skid collapsed and the 163 scrapped.

    Hope this may help..
