2 day into course is the most accessible…a flight in the Chipmunk or Tiger Moth, a flight in the T6/Harvard and then a flight in one of 2 2-seater Mark IX Spitfires. Groundschool included, flying licence holders only.
About the cost of a used small car…
Hi Cees, not in Australia no, but in our very own Goodwood;)
I’m no engineer Bruce, but I’m thinking 2 guys on the tail may compress the oleo somewhat?
Thanks!
Arghh! Can someone more computer literate than I put those pictures up the right way? They looked fine on my computer…
There’s nothing ironic about a repaired aircraft returning to it’s former base.
I think it’s all rather the way of things – we’re just stewards of these great aircraft, I hope very much that Spitfires are being flown from wartime bases long after I head off to bluer skies:)
They’ve loaned it to us to but like a bank loan, the privilege has to be paid for…
Oxford is a great venue but the north-south runway was not ideal and towards the end of last year they were refusing to allow run in and breaks, which is an important part of the experience for the students.
G-ILDA and G-CCCA, loaned from Arco.
I picked up a T6 fin from Lance in Dallas and that was completely coated in cosmoline. As mentioned, a good clean with thinners and it polished up very nicely. Always interesting unpacking WW2 surplus parts…often also wrapped in post war newspapers, real time capsules.
Interesting that it was a Second Officer on a 737…do we still have those?
All very odd. Pity no CVR…
Thanks for that Doc, nice to know we’re both still tearing around the sky:)
It might have been a recruitment display but I seem to remember it just being a car showroom/garage. Early 80’s probably about right.

As a young lad, my Dad took me to a garage in East London where XS101 was on display. Got to sit in it, more fuel to the fire of my ambition to become a pilot…must have been late 70s…anyone else remember that?
Work out the max drift, use the clock to calculate drift (i.e. if 30 degrees off, half the clock face=half max drift etc and you’re sorted. Works for headwinds/tailwinds also. Workable method and as old as the hills.
I haven’t used the whizz wheel since 1992
