Im sorry to hear that you had a bad experience CJH, it doesnt suprise me as the locals down in West Wales can be very funny like that. As a welshman i must admit I do enjoy a touch of the Celtic/Saxon banter but some people can be so rude an there is no excuse for that, I feel obliged to apologise on their behalf.

wasn’t you mate – so you have nothing to apologise for….yes Banter is fine – and expected 😎 as it is for a Welshman in England I dare say.

    the Brecons are indeed lovely

    Yes, I’m one too :p

And if I see one more dangerous mid-life-crisis/sunny-weather-only “biker” out there, I might just scream…and calm.

    mid-life reborn bikers

we get a lot of them round here tearing through Weardale as though it was a race track…big powerful bikes, no sense of road positioning and no care for anyone else in their path….always at weekends and when it is sunny.

gives the rest of us a bad name

inclement weather certainly makes you more aware but you can still enjoy the ride, well maybe not Ice that makes things a little too Torvill and Dean!!

I don’t mind rain and the cold (especially with the heated grips on) but Hail, heavy snow and ice are my real no-nos…

I came back from Bishop Auckland 4 years ago (climbing all the way to home – 1,000 ft above sea level) just as dark was falling – a 10 minute journey usually.
overcast and light rain at Bishop
Heavy rain at the Toronto roundabout
    light snow at Bitchburn
snow lying at approach to top of Crook
Blizzards at the top of Duffold Hill
2 inches of snow and Blizzard by the time I got to the farm track…both feet down and movig at about 2 miles per hour with the bike slipping in every direction except the one I wanted to go..

sort of put me off winter riding up here a bit ever since:)

last time I was in Wales – excavations at Castell Henllys (somewhere in the wilds between Newport and Cardigan) we went to the local pubs and as soon as we opened our mouths the conversations all switched to Welsh..

we were made so uncomfortable in the 3 weeks we were there that I have never been back – Very nice scenery and roads though.

did the brecons on that trip on the Jawa 350…now that was a really nice ride…even on the Jawa.#

Of course if the Bader stuff doesn’t interest, or the 160 K price tag is just a tad out of the pocket money

    how about

“A collection of silver and other artifacts belonging to Adolf Hilter and Eva Braun, Private Treaty Sale – Offers in excess of £55,000”

personally i think there must be people with more money than sense.
