Don’t suppose they are mentioned in the “Action Stations” Books at all – I havent got them Im afraid so I cant check
Chris

well done everyone involved in this rebirth

Don’t suppose anyone has an idea where the 1942 film “Flying Fortress” starring Richard Greene was shot ??
memorable for a scene where he crawls out onto the wing of his B-17 to smother a fire – otherwise I am told a forgettable film ( I have never seen it)
The engine repair incident was based on an actual event. A Royal New Zealand Air Force pilot, Sergeant James Allen Ward, earned the VC after he climbed onto the wing of his aircraft on 7 July 1941 to smother the burning engine.
Im going to start databasing this today – I promise

Chris

Its a bit like Cluedo isn’t it
I bet Colonel Mustard did it
welcome to the forum indeed
I am assuming that the hint of grey around the roundel is the paint on the metal….the suggested uniform curve suggests to me that it is cut from the body rather than the wing….this may be camera angle of course
from what is the question indeed….no idea is my honest answer
You can as a quick sunday evening test work out where the airfield was that features in BofB with Spits taking off over the English channel 🙂
Just a guess. Hawkinge?[/QUOTE]
as seen in my original post : yes it was Hawkinge…not much left of it now though –
the BoB museum on just about the last part of the airfield is worth a visit if you are passing through.

I believe there is a film called the “Red Berets” which shows a couple of scenes of a Wellington T10 in front of a hangar-all in colour!!(-unless I am dreaming).Damned if I know which airfeild it was filmed at though.
Thanks…..
The film “The Red Berets” was partially shot at RAF Abingdon Parachute School, RAF Abingdon in Oxfordshire….1953……Alan Ladd in the lead role and a host of recognisable British actors.
to me it sounds like one of two possibilities.
in the first
Kenneth Williams, a Royal Navy medic in 1942 is asked to assist someone without legs who is masquerading themselves as Bader (perhaps capitalising upon Baders fame) while staying at the Stork Hotel in Liverpool.
Although applying logic after the facts, the intoduction of this single element into the story, of impersonation, destroys the mystery and conspiracy element completely.
in the second it is all a fabrication for whatever purpose, potentially moneymaking.
The fact within this twisted tale is that Bader was secure within Colditz until the spring of 1945. The Germans would not have let one of their ultra troublemaking POWs out for a bit of weekend leave – especially not back to England.

I believe that Skellingthorpe was “Blackswan”
Twelve O’Clock High was (as in my original post ) filmed at Barford St. John Oxfordshire in 1949
would have loved to run down for this.
but its too early in the year for a long haul on the bike – January is too cold and I’m not as young (or as mad apparently) as I once was.
if anything is going on slightly later in the year please let me know
Chris
case proven I think
