Hi,
As you see I have a scanned programme of the airshow on the 27th July 1980 complete with a couple of photographs of the field in operation on that day.
I do recall witnissing a full size display, including a James Bond flying autogyro, and see that she is indeed listed for this display.
Enjoy!
Wes
I have tickets for Caen, and am in Normandy for the week 1-9 June.
I will be looking for other events in Normandy, and any news on the location where the parachutes will jump would be much appreciated
Thx in advance
The only “crackling” I have noticed is on planes coming in to land where the engine is more on idle and I presume what we hear is the odd backfire from unburnt fuel.
With all this talk of single/dual seat Spitfires, I wonder how possible it would be to make a removable second bubble, and have a replacement panel fit that would give the look of a single seater?
Best of both worlds?
Would it not have been easier to paint the H white then?
Great interview and footage.
Looks like it just lost airspeed and stalled whilst inverted
Very sad
Would a very large model suffice?
I don’t have one but I know there’s a few in existence.
If yes, then enquire through the Large Model Association
Sounds a great jape, but am sure there will be plenty of others who see this as a reckless stunt.
Tickled me though!
Whether it is a paid for airshow or a free seaside show, I notice the crowd have a hushed respect when the BBMF fly followed by a round of applause.
I think most people understand the significance as well as enjoying the spectacle.
I think it looks great.
Very authentic.
I hear the idea of the aileron, but think at the end of the day it may just look a bit odd, and not many people would make the mind leap of what it is supposed to represent.
Looking forward to seeing in the flesh
But I don’t think this topic should belong in the Historic forum.
In the style of the OP, as it was not built today, then it must have been built before today, so therefore sometime in (recent) history!
AND it has an original MK5 pitot tube…so qualifies in more ways than one :eagerness:
Very nice indeed, and your comments made me chuckle.
Out of interest, what does the handle do with the massive R pin? (“Remove before flight”)
I thought at first maybe a ballistic parachute, but then thought the machine would be too heavy for such an item.
The “smoke on” from takeoff was an indication it was a display item.
Bit scary how low the exit and subsequent high energy turns were performed, pretty much zero room for error.
Still tragic though
Ouch….looks worse than I thought it would
