    That’s Jeremy Hall’s cockpit isn’t it?

Fantastic time capsule, although he built it himself (there was an article in fp IIRC) it looks to be as if it was never tinkered with after demob.

Wonder how he is able to transport it on the bomb trolley across Britain. He is located in Egham I think. He also owns a Lancaster fuselage mockup that was at Brooklands.

    Cheers

    JC,

I too am amazed what still turns up. In the days of 57Rescue Ian Foster told me what discoveries they made up there in the north, so this shouldn’t be a surprise.
Perhaps YAM can make a swap for it, it would make HR792 look much better without the distorted perspex nosepiece she wears now (with all due respect to the chap who made it those years ago). Did it came out of an old yard or a remote crashsite (although the latter would be unlikely reading your description of the find).

    Cheers

    Peter,

Now that’s a good idea, a Halton. I can delete al the nasty things and paint it red (not black).

Yes, it’s not as easy as the Lancaster where there are some spares lying around. We we have to build a new canopy as there isn’t one available, or is there?

The Common Law of Abandonment comes into play, here. It is much your complex than your over-simplification here – believe me!!

One also has to consider that in 1974 the MOD wrote to say that they had abandoned all claim to crashed wartime aircraft “….which had been reduced into the possesion of the landowner”. I still have that letter. Framed! Since then they have reneged on that and reversed the situation. In the late 1980’s they also said they had no interest in or claim over crashed/lost RAF aircraft outside of the UK. Again, they have now gone back on that.

    Andy,

Since when? Can we reclaim all costs recovering all “their” wrecks then?

    Tony,

That’s some fantastic progress you have accomplished. That surely would
promise some nice things once you start on the Mustang. Any pics of the 1/4 Whirlwind?

Armoured glass as used in the Avengers dorsal turret? Perhaps conversion of those for the FAA?

    Spooky,

Nature’s way to ensure W1048 is returned to it’s former resting place?;)

Or should this be moved to the haunted airfields thread?:D

Only joking, but luckily the damage was slight, and it will boost the local carpet company’s sales in this time of financial crisis.

    Hi Ken,

I am following this project of his very closely, very impressive to say the least. Especially the historic part of it.
    Modelling on a different level.

    Cheers
