Apologies if you already have this information, but P/O Hugh Douglas Murray, service number 127523, 26 OTU, on Wellington IC DV885, was killed in a training accident 6/11/42. T/O Little Horwood reported crashed near the airfield. P/O Murray, a Canadian from Vancouver serving with the Volunteer Reserve was killed along with Sgt. J W Wilde, Sgt J.M Lennox, F/S W C Ferguson DFM, Sgt H Bailey and Sgt Clarke was injured. P/O Murray was buried in Kirk Sandall Churchyard, the rest in their home towns, as reported in Bomber Command Losses book, and Canadian Virtual War Memorial site.

Not much info, but hopefully someone will add more. Jack

We so did! Well I did a litle bit.

So leading to a question, is it OK to keep bringing the same thing? We try and change our display a bit each time, but I think now we’ve probably gone as far as we can with it, so from now on its not going to change much, does that mean realistically the interest has gone, or would there be sufficient new blood at each Cockpitfest to drum up a bit of interest?

Thanks from all us on the Lancaster W4270 display as well, we all had an amazing time, met some wonderful people, several who we’d already had help from but not met, nice to thank them in person, we’ve got notebooks of new people to contact and several new leads to follow up.

My one regret is I still didn’t manage to get round the cockpits (again) and from the photos have missed a treat…maybe next year!

For me personally the highlight was of course the Lancaster Flypast, always makes me tremble and sets the heart racing, was so worried with the weather it may not happen, but it did, with the usual excitement.

Congratulations to all the prize winners too, and thankyou for the exhibit plaque as well, great idea!

    Thankyou all. Jack

If all else fails, is it worth emailing here

    http://www.culturalprofiles.net/scotland/units/3665.html

and seeing if they have anything either in a newspaper or local magazine?

Sorry Peter, I’m just trying to check that where we are planning to put the information board for Lancaster W4270 is going to be similar to other Memorials and in the best place for people following the trail to see it, hope we’ve got it right.

Yes please, I’m sure they will happily put them out on display.

Where would that be placed for RAF Balderton? Is that new pub/restaurant on the roundabout near Fernwood on the edge of the airfield? I think its Balderton I need to talk to you about? Jack.

    Thankyou.

We’ll discuss your fee next time we meet, I have a couple of other things I want to run by you as well, based on one of our last conversations…strange the coincidences that occur : )

Can you let me know when you get the booklets in, I’d like to put a few in the pub near the Memorial as they have kindly put a print out of the brief history of the memorial in one corner and have a few copies of the film behind the bar in case anyone calls in and is interested, and the pub seems the obvious place for people to search out further information I thought…and they do great food! So if you have any spare I’ll call in and pick a few up and leave them in there, and if I can help distribute any this way on I’ll gladly help.

    Many thanks Jack

Thankyou TwinOtter, but most of the article is down to the effort of AirportsEd, I merely provided information, but I agree it looks wonderful, he’s managed to get some fabulous artwork done and bought the story to life, I’m just in the process of sending copies out to the relatives who have provided a lot of the photos etc used, am sure they will also be suitably proud.

I’ve been talking about the Halam Memorial today, some good news has come about the information board for our memorial…were your ears burning? I have a meeting Tuesday evening about it after work, but it looks positive, thanks to your efforts and advice, I understand the Aviation Trail Booklet is imminent, and you managed to get the information about Halam in it, well done!

Still hoping to get something to Cockpit Fest, not forgotten, have even managed to obtain some sponsorship to get new banners printed, just need one of my daughters to have time to do new designs with the updated information, if we don’t make this year definitely put us down for next.

Wish there were a few more hours in the day and a few less Christmases in a year : )

Well done, I couldn’t find any at all, seemed incredibly rare, so to find two is amazing! Jack

I had a very quick look yesterday and am hoping to have a really good study later, but the bit I did see looks fantastic, it opens up all sorts of possibilities. I hadn’t seen the footage of the Vulcan landing before and although its not the best quality as you say, its still pretty amazing, a great way of combining information.
