Thank you T/O, I hear the Scottish ones sent by Milton Whitehead’s sister are really flourishing this year! Glad you like it Bombgone, like a lot of things it happened by accident, but we’ve found it really useful to spread the word about this young crew!
Thank you for mentioning this Peter! Here’s a photo of the exhibition boards we have used to tell their story.

Heads up to anyone around Woodhall Spa tomorrow, the premier showing of this documentary takes place at The Kinema, tickets will be available on the door if anyone can get, here’s the Lincolnshire Echo’s news piece http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/Pathfinder-Force-mark-leading-way-Dambusters/story-19753930-detail/story.html#axzz2eCcKuZeh
I’m sure you will already have seen all these at the National Archives, will keep my eye out for anything in ‘unusual’ places for you. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/s/res?_q=raf+winthorpe&_sd=yyyy&_ed=yyyy
See Post #8 T/O, bet you’re jet lagged still : ) Great book isn’t it! Did you recognise the dreadful incident over Crowland that Percy Cannings witnessed, that is where our Memorial’s blade came from…small world!
Here’s the link to the news report, starts at roughly 20 mins in http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0379zl0/Look_North_(Yorkshire_and_Lincolnshire)_25_07_2013/
I don’t think so or it probably would have that on his DFM announcement, but thank you for mentioning it. If anyone is in the BBC Look North region, we think the news piece filmed at East Kirkby may be on tonight if anyone can watch.
The search for Gordon Brown continues, still no leads sadly http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-23424107
There’s a photo of him on this site http://www.mowcop.info/harriseahead/people/heroes/sam_lightfoot.htm
I never, ever get to see this bit, always miss it without fail, so never appear on any group photo! Congratulations to all the winners though, really enjoyed the weekend as ever, lots of great effort put in by everyone.
I think in all honesty, that will probably be the last one I do unless we get a new project, ours has definitely had it’s day, what seemed something a bit different to start with has now been done over and over again, so I feel it’s time to hang up the hat on this one. So next year I’ll be a visitor and hopefully get to see more of everyone else’s projects as it looks like I’ve been missing some fabulous stuff!
I only managed to get a few on my phone, so not very good, but it was a great event really enjoyed it, thanks to all!

Yes, huge thanks to all the organisers, I had a great time. Didn’t quite get to see everything again, but did get out and about a bit more. Highlight of the weekend for me was possibly more of a personal experience, seeing two Bomber Command Veterans meet up for the first time and shake hands, you could feel the respect between them, a moment I won’t forget. Thank you once again for a great event, hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.
Great first day, shame about the showers, but it didn’t spoil it.
I feel tomorrow will be a great day, the book launch is shaping up to be fabulous, with both a veteran from the crew featured in the book and a Pathfinder, looking forward to it, and everything crossed for another flypast!
Looks like that will have been a good move, it’s hissing down here and the forecast looks ‘challenging’ at times over the weekend, hope it stay dry and wind free long enough for the flypasts!
🙂 I actually meant to refer to the Antiques Fair…doesn’t it have the word ‘Antiques’ painted down it?
I heard the presenter say he’d spent many a happy hour at NAM, haven’t we all! :highly_amused:
