    My earliest recollections are of the Open Days at Wethersfield in 1963/64 which my Dad used to take me to. Some of you may recall the couple of pics of his that I’ve posted before.

    After that, I remember going to (i.e. being taken to) North Weald in the mid 60s before I finally was old enough to take myself off to shows, and I became a regular at Greenham, Mildenhall, Lakenheath and others.

    I vividly remember being at Biggin in about 1975. As I was crossing the field in line with the end of the runway (as you used to be able to do), the speck in the distance at the end of the runway was almost instantly over my head. Once I’d regained my equilibrium and dusted myself down, it transpires it was a Phantom getting airborne. Some time later, the ground stopped shaking!

    Thanks so much for posting – I remember the Freighters well, the Vikings less well. Certainly brings back some old memories. Do you know when they were taken?

    I use the Canon 17-85IS lens on my 20D with which I’ve been very pleased. Great quality and a very useful focal range.

    A very sad loss for us all. A true legend who will always be remembered. Duxford displays won’t be the same without him. My condolences to his family, friends and all at OFMC.

    Nice pics Stieglitz 🙂

    Is this where there is a museum? If so, is it far from the city centre and is it easy to get to?

    TIA

    I suggest you scan the negs as you’ll get a better quality image. Hope this helps.

    I download my pics from each event into a new folder e.g “Legends 2005” which I back-up to CD/DVD as a “Master”. I edit the pics putting the better ones into a sub-folder. Those in that sub-folder I then:-

    1.Copy to another CD and (usually) have them printed (can’t beat Boots at 7p each at the moment);
    2. Catalogue those photos into an Access database showing aircraft type and model/mark;location;year;registration and nationality.

    It is time consuming and I’d welcome a streamlined way of achieving this, but in the meantime it works for me. I’d somehow like to be able to copy my edited file direct into the database – but how would it know the type etc!!

    Wethersfield is where it all began for me, my Dad taking me to the Open Days in the early/middle 1960, so I hold the place in some affection. I’ve got a few of the pics he took at the time, but if anyone can post some pics I’d be really pleased to see them.

    I still bore my Dad with my pics, but he can’t be bothered to come with me any more as he’s put off by the queueing in and out, and unfortunately can’t really cope with being on his feet for the day.
