Aside from being generally excited when as a kid my dad took me to Wethersfield in the early 60s, I do recall being gobsmacked at my first IAT at Greenham Common in 1974. It was the number and variety of aircraft as well as the level of international participation that did it for me. Of course the show is now much bigger by all of those criteria! 😀

Other memorable moments were seeing the Blackbird flying at Mildenhall Air Fetes on a number of occasions during the 80s – absolutely stunning :p

I too was at Faiford when the Rusian MiGs crashed; fortunately no casualties. Regrettably, I was also at Legends in 2003 when we lost the Firefly with her crew – a very black day.

This ex RAAF HS748 along with two others are now at Southend (Rochford) awaiting onward sale.

As a (very small) child I used to watch and hear Freighters flying in and out of Rochford in the old Channel Air Bridge and Channel Airways colours together with Vikings, Elizabethan/Ambassadors and Britannias from BKS and the other local stuff. What a step forward when they developed the Carvair!

I wish I had some pics from those very old days – Carvairs I’ve got as they were around until the late 70s/early 80s?

Thanks for posting Robbo. I’m quite keen on the wider range that the Canon offers…but not that sure that I’m rushing for the credit card!

I agree with Damien on this point. What lens do you chaps suggest for static aviation/general purpose photography?

I’m currently using a Sigma 20-40 but this isn’t quite wide enough as this “equates” to 32-64. I’m thinking about the Canon 17-40L – is this a good choice? Any thoughts or advice?

    TIA

    In no particular order:-
    SR-71 Blackbird
    F-14 Tomcat
    EE Lightning
    Viggen
Mirage F1 – although those Swiss MirageIIIs look lovely too
    RA-5 Vigilante

I think that’ll do for now!!

That’s a pretty long list of damaged aircraft. 🙁
Does anyone know yet whther they’ll be able to repair all of them?

I’m really saddened as I had a superb visit to the NMNA back in February.

What is the recommended shutter speed for flyby shots? I have a Canon S50 digital.

For jets, I’d suggest around 1/500 or faster if the camera allows. You need a rather slower speed for props otherwise you suffer from “frozen prop syndrome”! I use around 1/180 or 1/125 when possible.

Hope this helps. Do post the pics next week.
