The guns of the Mi-35M are twin barrel GSh-23, cal. 23 mm – basically the same gun as on late version MiG-21 and MiG-23. They are quite decent; the rate of fire and shell weight are higher than those of the 20 mm gun on the Superhinds
Thanks, but although the Romanian Air Force gets smaller and smaller, pictures of it are by no means rare, so sorry but it doesn’t belong in this thread.
Also, there are photos a lot more dramatic as the one posted above.
Say, these ones: :diablo:
maybe they are better off getting more use out of the J-22. Its supersonic so it could be used in the QRA role with GCI. Purchase whats left of the Romanian IAR-93 spares and look to integrate an off the shelf IR missile.
The J-22 is not supersonic, it can barely go past mach 1 only in a dive.
There’s almost nothing left of Romanian IAR-93s in open storage, most were scrapped as were the (meager) spares stocks, a few incomplete airframes ended up in museums and memorial sites.

Ivory Coast never had any Mig !!!!!
Yes they did, two ML delivered from Bulgaria and now impounded in Togo, seen here at Yamoussoukro AB in 2005:
No, they are not. The remaining 6 MiG-29 Fulcrum C (after the sale to the USA of the other 21 examples) were overhauled in Belarus, flown home in February 1998 and grounded ever since – and for sale.
The one missing from the pictures should be 43 yellow.
Agreed! The Qatari M2ks are in good shape and probly still available, a pitch for HAF Mirages right now might yield good results too. And there are fulcrums available – Hungary, Serbia, and even VVS.
HAF Mirages are not for sale, they never were.
Serbia has only 4 MiG-29s left – also not for sale
The L-159s belong (or will belong?) to EADS and I believe they have already sold them to Bolivia.
Bolivia isn’t getting any L-159, they have purchased K-8s.
One of them was definitely SFM 5201. It is likely that the other was SFM 5202, see
Recently there has been a major discussion about a “very big” JF-17 order by unknown countries. With the recent visit of JF-17s to Turkey, I am speculating that there is some interest in the JF-17. The latest block comes with AESA radar, IRST and other goodies.
Do you grasp the fact that NATO countries will never buy Chinese fighters ?
Absolutely no chance as far as Romania is concerned. There simply isn’t any money for such a purchase now, common or not.
Last summer the MoD wanted to get 24 used F-16 Block 25, the only thing that stopped the purchase was the lack of money. Since than they’ve cut military wages and pensions, today they cut the Policemen’s salary, hospitals are being closed down, etc.
The whole report is bogus IMHO. Why would Turkey need to team up with Europe’s (military) paupers when they are getting a batch of brand new F-16s right now, upgrading F-4s and CCIP’ing all other F-16s, planning F-35, making giant helicopter purchases, not to mention own r&d ? Makes no sense at all.
One must realise that talks about stealth choppers is all but unproven; given the fact that public ad seen & we had in our custody the wrcekage of fallen chopper…& its Chinook.
Don’t say
If that’s a Chinook, I’m Elvis
Not sure if it’s military, but it’s interesting anyway.
The civilian registration HA-…. couldn’t be more obvious.
Besides, Hungary never operated military Gazelles
Yes, they are.
X-47B is 11×18 meters with max take-off weight of 20 tons
Phantom Ray is 11×15 meters with max take-off weight of 16.5 tons
(although few would be surpised if LMT Skunk Works is working on something, after all they built the F-117 which is the basis for all modern UCAV designs)
Yeah, they could easily come up with an armed version of the RQ-170 Sentinel
