What about the SA-2&3 sites from Nevada, close to the S-300 near Tolicha Peak?
Were they ever used with real systems (radars and missiles) or just as earth revetments for targets?
The Swiss Hawks
Well the one CH covered with Tarpaulin. The whole MiG-23 thing remains a rather fishy issue. Both were impounded in Togo but it is unclear what happened to them later on. If I remember correctly I even read something that the Togolese Air Force took them over, which in my opinion is just veery unlikely. My educated guess is that they are stored somewhere in Ivory Coast. The peace progress is quite promising so there is no more urgent need to press them into service (if there ever was).
The two MiG-23s were still stored in Togo as of 23 March 2006 – that’s when the satelite imagery below was taken
Three more Mongolian SA-2 sites for SOC
I believe 100% this pics taken in Syria, you can see the style of houses in the background, note the old Mercedes-Benz truck
Of course it is taken in Syria. It’s written under the picture “Syria, 2008”, just that nobody read it, instead preferring to launch speculations.
Besides, it wouldn’t make any sense for the Syrians to send their old Mi-8s to Ukraine just to be trashed and left to root – they can do that at home, cheaper :diablo:
the energy wasted on jet trainers during the late 1970s and 1980s (S211, IAR99, Squalus, C101, that Cessna thing, Iryda)
IMO you can’t put all those together
OK, Squalus, Cessna and Iryda died as prototypes, but the others not.
IAR-99 is in service with the Romanian AF for almost 20 years now, doing what it was intended to do, so it exitence is perfectly justified. Export market was not a priority when it was designed, it came as an afterthought in the 90’s.
S211 was in service with Haiti, and still is with Philipines and Singapore
C101 is used by Spain, Jordan, Honduras, Chile.
At least for the latter two energy seems not to be wasted – unless you wanted to see only Hawks/Alpha Jets on one side of the Iron Courtain and L-39s on the other 😀

Probably old news.

Attempt to emulate the EA-6 or EF-111 in an USAF or USN alpha package.
(IMO, didn’t the Israelis and Yanks already do this, 30+ years ago?)
So what? The concept is still viable, EF-111s and EA-6 were used in Desert Storm, the latter also participating in the bombings of Serbia in 1999.
