Suggested price was $1.2 mil per aircraft.
That’s a lot for what looks like a partial cockpit upgrade and adding an already existing MG pod – considering also the value of the dollar in 2000. No wonder it went nowhere.
Thanks for the pictures.

USAF bought 21 Moldovan Migs-29 for one million USD per piece, what is a scrap-metal price and not price for a flightworthy military aircraft.
Because Moldovan Migs were stored in contrary to all the regulations of aircraft treatment during parking and long stays. Aircrafts and engines have not been preserved, so to speak they were rusting every day on the airfield.
Not exactly, the price was 80 milion USD, but also included a lot of AA-8,10,11 and ground support and diagnosis equipment.
About the state of the aircraft, you are right. Prior to the US sale in 1997, Moldova offered MiG-29s to Romania as debt payment sometimes in 95-96. Our techinicians went there to take a look, and decided that it’s not worth the trouble to get them.

Corrosion is always an issue with all aircraft that are based near the sea and operate above it. Especially if they are not washed after every sortie.
I know there used to be a 800 liter tank available for the Fishbed but I haven’t seen it used all that often.
The 800 liter tank is not particulary popular among Fishbed pilots, reportedly the MiG is a bit heavy on the control and less responive with it attached, especially if you also have stores on the wings.

So I believe Fishbed can loads 8 missiles if situation need according to both inboard and outboard pylons can carried 2 missiles.
No, it can’t. Its fire-control computer can only handle 6 missiles maximum. That’s why you’ll never see a Fishbed with 8 Aphids on dual launchers.
Theoretically, Romanian MiG-21 Lancer C (those with the white-gray camo) could support Derby. They have Elta EL-2032 radars and the inboard pylons are wired for Python III. Only a software update and the missiles plus rails would be needed.
Anyway, there is no need (nor funds) for Derby in peacetime QRA, so you won’t see them on our MiGs.
