it has always surprised me that you don’t see more loadouts on the MiG-21 that include four R-60’s on dual adaptors plus outboard wing mounted external tanks. Thus you have room for three external tanks and you still get four AAM’s. Food for thought anyways….
Here’s one:
http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Images/Weapons/AAMs/R60/R-60B.jpg.html
You don’t see them that often because it is a very draggy loadout, plus the space between them is mighty small, might not be an operational loadout – remember that thread abouth the MiG-23BN with 500 kg bombs on the fuselage pylons and centerline fuel tank?

He said the PAC had all the plans to make JF-17 Thunder the world’s first weapon system that is able to carry all types of conventional and non-conventional weapons.
When you have a belly mounted gun like the Mig-27 and Mig-21 then ingestion of powder gasses can stall the engine.
On the MiG-21 gun gas ingestion was never an issue, the muzzle of the GSh-23 is several meters behind the nose intake.

You are sure it was 4-31? AFAIK the number used are contineously and as Italy received just 28 aircraft within Tranche 1, the last number should be 28.
see below
A couple of Italian Typhoons (4-31 and 4-11) visited Romania in autumn 2007 during the BSDA defence expo
Judging from the flags, it looks like a joint Russian-Indian program.
Not a bad idea to have the same engine for the MKI and MiG-27.
Fixed inlets are not such a problem for powerful engines, they only limit the maximum speed – which was anyway 1.8 mach for the -27.
Besides, when it’s loaded with bombs and A2G missiles max speed (past Mach 1) is not an issue, fuel consumption (range) is – that’s where it could benefit a lot from the turbofan vs. its old turbojet.
