Until now the Border Police’s main fleet was made up of 4 Neustadt class patrol boats (board numbers MAI 1101-1104, recevied second hand from Germany in 2003-2006, built in 1969-70) plus a number of Shanghai II class patrol boats, built in country at Galati in the 70’s

I would guess that if you are in Europe and want a fairly light and cheap fighter, you are not going to spend $20 – 30 million on an adapted advanced jet trainer you will pay the extra to get the Gripen (unless you are Romania 🙂 ).
So the F-16 is “an adapted advanced jet trainer”
Thanks for enlightning us.
Don’t know the story behind them, but here’s another 3
I still suprised people think US is willing to intervene militarily. […] Also American people would not be happy, if US goes to war over a place they know little about.
Well, to be honest, American people know little (or nothing) about most countries in the world – but that didn’t prevent the US military to wage war against / over / for a lot of those countries since WW2.
Whenever debating about a possible US-China conflict over Taiwan, one needs to look at the economic aspects first, than the political and military ones. And that is the reason why I too believe the US won’t defend Taiwan, it’s too risky from the economical point of view.
Just for example, China has the largest US dollar reserves in the world, imagine what would happen if they flood the currency market with dollars after the US Navy intervenes in the Taiwan strait…
Nope, those dual launchers are designed only for dumb air to ground stores.
Interaction between weapons configurations and the airframe was tested for a month
What are those? Depth charges? They don’t look like regular bombs.
These are part of a batch of 24 UAE Pumas upgraded in Romania to IAR-330 SM standard (Makila engines, French avionics and countermeasures, partial glass cockpit).

The only place where there might be Soviet made MiG-19 in service is North Korea.
Chinese F-6 and FT-6 are still serving in Tanzania and North Korea
FT-6 are still used as trainers in A-5 Fantan units in China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sudan
The last picture posted by Tango III is likely taken in one of USSR’s central Asian republics, during a live launch exercise.
The R-60 dedicated pylon was fitted on the M-3 and M-4 versions.
The two seaters never got that pylon.
Yes, I know how Kazakhstan’s national insignia looks like, i used the term “roundel” rather inappropriately as a general term for national insignia. But thanks for the forum link, I’m working myself trough it right now.
Is anybody familiar with USSR’s ORBAT just before the breakup? I have the feeling there weren’t any Fitters based in the Kazakh SSR, there’s no trace in Google Earth too. Given the relative abundance of photos of the Kazakh AF, there would have been some with Su-17s if they had them at all.
NKorea (could be M2, but don’t know)
The Hermit kingdom has no Su-22s, just some Su-7s
Kazakhstan – few Fitters still active
I have never seen evidence of Kazakhstan operating Fitters (writen or pictures), only a poorly photoshopped image of a Polish Su-22 with Kazakh roundels. So if anyone has evidence to the contrary, please post it.
yes I see, but does it mean the Su-22UM3K cant carry R-60?
It certainly can carry R-60 on the regular pylons

Will Romaina ground all Lancers, or they will fly with F16s for some time ?
The answer is already in earlier posts of this thread, unfortunatly politics got the better of it….
Last Lancers will retire in 2013, the same year the F-16s are scheduled to arrive.
It is reasonable to believe that there will be some overlap, but probably just until the F-16s reach IOC – which in our case would be the capability to have 2 jets on 24/7/365 QRA at each of the two operationl airbases.
Interesting, Bulgaria (operational MiG29s) is Romania’s first neighbor, also been part of Warsaw alliance under SU. Similar history and economy conditions from second world war. But not as much close to USA as Romania ?
Just because both were WP members means nothing. Bulgaria had and still has strong connections with Russia, Bulgarians ancestors (part of them anyway) came from Russia, there still are some ethinc groups in Russia similar to them as far as language goes.
Romania on the other hand had a much more independent (or rather isolated) position inside the WP since 1968. (kinda like France in NATO)
I never been in post communist Romania, but I cannot forget my conversations with Romanians about hunger, poverty, dirt roads, black market, risky over border work for food (my friend Julio), hand made clothes, rudimentary electronics, total censorship, Africa was the word they would sometimes use… I’ll never accept that they were lying to me…
And while we’re off topic, please stop telling me (and other Romanians here) that we grew up in an African like country. Yes, poor and underdeveloped by European standards (even as of now), but any comparison with Africa is completely out of place.
regarding what you Romanian co-workers told you, it was probably a figure of speech. Also take into accouint the fact that most Romanians like to exagerate things – look no further than this thread for proof 😉
