Can I be the one GOM that doesn’t like the setting of Old Warden for ‘modern’ military aircraft. To me, Duxford is the place for this.
I’d rather see the early days of flight at OW, Civil or Military.

They do a bloody good job of restorations though.

Its canberra because the fuselage cross section is that of a can!

Surely is Seattle, Snohomish County with so many Boeings around. Doesn’t help with the aircraft tho.

But then a quick google produces the news of Paul Allens collection at Paine Field… same place… and therefore probably is the Hurricane

    Nimrod R1 Update 5/7/2011

There were three Nimrod R1’s operated by 51 Sqdn one was taken out of service in 2009 and the remaining two remained in service until June 2011. One (XW664) will be coming to the Aeropark the fate of the other two is yet to be confirmed.

    Info from hear, http://www.eastmidlandsaeropark.org/index.html

How many R1s were there? Three original and then an MR converted.

Still seems amazing to me that we talk of 51sqn and the R1 so openly. When I worked at Woodford they were referred to as those aircraft that don’t exist and are not operated by a squadron that doesn’t exist. They never spent much time outside when at Wyton.

I heard again from another source that the Manchester Shack will be moving out soon. Is it possible they could take on the Duxford a/c as its undercover and there is an ex-Avro team on site to do work?

Of course. May take me a while. They’re all slides and need digitizing.

I’m curious how the Taunton vet used the aircraft. Presumably he wasn’t doing world tours in those days.

Thought I’d seen it! At Taunton. Not sure of the date yet but will find it over the weekend.
Pretty sure I’ve got one of IIF as well but that’ll take a bit of searching.

I had a problem with mine, only receiving BBC1, 2, & 4. No commercial channels. After a bit of internet searching found that my aerial was receiving too much power and that a low/high power selection was available in the setup routine. No problem now.
Seems strange that too much power restricts receipt but what do I know. Would still prefer analogue.

Giant chocolate Easter eggs in the window of Woolworth’s

    Woolworth’s? Who are they?

Only joking! I too remember the pop man with all different pops in stoneware jars to be dispensed from his vehicle.
What about a hardware store that also sold freshly ground coffee? The smells were amazing as you passed the coffee counter to hardware smells like parafin in the rear of the premises. And it had old, undressed, wooden floors.
Forget your Airfix kits…. what about Frog?

    How very reassuring.

The full paragraph goes on to say that the third party airline has to fully comply with the EU regulations, so what’s the problem? The airline then has a cheaper operation, say domestically, where standards do not need to be as high but also complies internationally. Best of both worlds.
