Having spent more than a couple of years working for an aircraft manufacturer I can assure you that detailed studies of an airline’s route network and suitability for the aircraft are made by the manufacturer prior to a sale. These would include airfield performance, taking into account weather – wind, temp, surface condition; range with all the variations and challenges outlined above; economics with fuel burn, atc and airport costs etc. and more.
Guarantees would be provided by the manufacturer that their aircraft would be capable of operating to and between specified airports and any limitations would be noted.
The oft quoted max or typical range of an aircraft is nothing more than a very rough guide to start your investigations into possibilities.
Try to get hold of a book ‘The Airline Business’ by Rigas Doganis which would give you a good background knowledge of these things.
If you’re driving up to Manchester and you’re looking for airliners then Birmingham, Coventry and East Midlands are only a couple of miles off your route and well worth a quick visit. If you want military or light aircraft as well, even more fields could be added easily.

Not to mention spelling!
What are/were Blackpools development plans? Surely its big enough for the current level of service? If it thinks it can attract more services by having a bigger better terminal then that money needs to come from investors and recouped subsequently from increased passenger numbers not from fleecing current passengers.
I’m with Ryanair that sustainable profit comes from taking a little from many rather than a lot from a few.
Flying into Gatwick in 74/75, the Baldo would probably not have been troubled by many, if any, airliners! You could probably have had a good 30 minutes with no commercial movements and certainly no Airbuses!!
Internal tanks of a water bomber/fire fighting aircraft. High wing so…DHC-8 ?
Interesting thread (and that of the Baldo). Which other aircraft have disappeared from the radar where the collective thoughts and knowledge here may be able to locate them or put a final fate to them?
Anyone got a list of aircraft removed from Wrecks and Relics due to no recent information?
Anyone admitting to digging deep?
The Vrauz museum can be found here http://www.amrvraux.com/presentation%2Bcadre12.htm with a pic of the fuselage without floor on the ‘your visit’ buttons.
Whilst looking through those pics….what is the fuselage behind the tractor? It has an odd bit of glazing!

Looking at it from the viewpoint of the owners – if you owned a Lanc, or any historic aircraft, had the funds to get it into the air again and were not getting any younger, what would you do?
Would you be thinking of the aircraft’s future, the airshow attractiveness or just fulfilling a dream before its too late?
Aircraft belong in the air!
Surely a G222?

B17 just 12.30 passed over E London and turned N. Presumably LB.
The aircraft was retired from Transport Command in ’68 but a number carried on in Bomber Command. I recall seeing 4 of them at Waddo around ’75 or ’76. I believe the preserved examples actually flew to their museums.

and no mention of Goodyear?
From my visit some 4 years ago that was where I got most though Mojave was most interesting. Also don’t forget the field just to the south of Phoenix that has the piston engined airliners – name escapes me. And if you have time then a visit to DM/MASDC has to be done just for the sheer numbers of aircraft. A few airliners present but mostly military. If you’re driving, as a guide, I did Phoenix to Vegas in a day with a good stop at Kingman and a day round-trip from Phoenix to Tucson allowed a view of Marana and DM.

Whats wrong with a lot of smoke and very noisy at take off (and landing and at any other time)?
Bring back the Convair 990s where you could track the flight for the rest of the day due to the smoke!
Carbon footprint? Whats that?
