    ….

We have got a sophisticated C4I system and gradually the plan is to build an air defence network throughout the country to protect the important installations.

Also we purchase Mi-17’s every year as we use them in UN missions. The helicopters have a seperate budget (3-4 helicopters are purchased every year) so it’s enough for now.

A sophisticated C4I system?? Like What?

    50-70?!

You mean to tell me that my tax dollars are helping to pay for them to get that many F-16’s???

That’s crazy…….there are so many other places I can think of that I’d rather have F-16’s go…..

The NYT reports that the $3 billion ‘aid’ being provided by the US to Pakistan will be used to buy these planes.
I’d read this elsewhere ..where somebody claimed of the US’s generosity in providing aid to poorer nations and how this aid had gone up this year. It was a nice thing to know till it it was found that almost $3 bn in ‘aid’ would be in terms of military credits..Guess who the recepient is?

Is it just me or do the shaaheen pics look photoshopped? Except for the first and the last two, the missile looks out of place in the other pics…esp. in the one with all the generals.

And anyone who questions the World Bank’s ability to calculate country’s GDP is a clown of the nth order.

Actually the WB does make huge blunders. In the seventies or the early eighties -cant remember exactly when- it granted China loans at very concessional rates meant for very poor countries when they grosslly underestimated its GDP. They still count that one as one of the biggest mistakes. Hopefully they are doing a better job of it now.

Are you still saying it was single handedly responsible? A simple yes or no would suffice.

    No.

    Thanks.
However in that case it would be difficult to infer that:

America is the reason all of Europe isn’t forcibly speaking German or Russian at this point.

    Anyway….

The US and UK won the war and are taking all the casualties while France and Russia would have left Saddam in power. You think its odd that they didn’t get reconstruction contracts? BTW, guess which two countries were owed billions by Iraq before the war? Try France and Russia. Guess which two counties supplied almost all the arms that Iraq had? Try France and Russia.

While blaming Russia and France for all the ills, you seem to forget how the US propped up Saddam (wierdly described by the american media as secular and liberal at the time) against the Mullah led Iran – who btw themselves came to power after toppling the regime of yet another dictator, the Shah of Iran :).
Its like the pot calling the kettle black, except that the pot seems to make a lot more noise.
That said, I dont begrudge the US helping itself to the war booty(read: reconstruction projects paid for in oil) in Iraq. The brits might be a liitle pissed after they find out they have been royally short-changed in the whole thing. But none of anyone elses business i guess.

The US and UK won the war and are taking all the casualties

You have to break a few eggs to be able to bake the cake, right??

and many other nations are helping to a lesser degree.

yeah, the much trumpeted “coalition of the willing”:

Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.

    Afganistan?? El Salvador?? Eriteria?? Ethiopia??
    LOL..!!!

Some people just can’t stand it that some other, freeer, vastly more powerful, country is responsible for their freedom, and go through their lives resenting that fact.

Are you still saying it was single handedly responsible? A simple yes or no would suffice.

Now if you would just help us out in Iraq…

Since american jingos anyway have the tendency to claim all the glory for themselves, why not go ahead and do it….errrrm… *single handedly* 😀 . Then they can claim how some other freer, vastly more powerful country with the ability to turn a given coordinate to radioactive dust was responsible for their freedom. Infact they are welcome to have their “Iraq” and eat it too. Noone else wants a part of it.

America is the reason all of Europe isn’t forcibly speaking German or Russian at this point.

Thats odd considering how many of the E.Germans, Poles, Hungarians, Romanians and Bulgarians dont speak fluent russian.

Why is it that the test beds are aircrafts larger than the actual planes? Wouldnt it make sense for a test bed to be of a similar size of the actual aircraft?

P.S, lets keep the discussion confined to Pakistan , NOT india and their old early 80’s creaky submarines. Thanx

I agree. You can discuss the super-duper subs that the PN is acquiring/going to acquire to death. No one is really interested in that. You could have actually kept ‘India’ out of the discussion by not mentioning it at all. Unfortunately the only ppl who do seem to mention ‘India’ first in any context are the ones like yourself. Somehow this is typical of any thread where the pakistani members get involved in.
