A bumbling amateur indeed. superb shots mate, if you class that as amateur…..I really am wasting my time with my efforts :o, great work mate
SIMPLY STUNNING Photographs, ……….:( is it just me or do pics like these really p#ss you off and make you want to throw your camera into the wheelie bin
MY guess is this programme is the one that has been on a couple of years ago, but then it was called BRITONS COLD WAR SUPER WEAPONS. even if it is the same one, its well worth a watch. Its just One two hour programme. but as i say well worth recording!!! 🙂
as before mate, well worth a visit to the airbase museum at gullivers world…..
Most of what i knew as the airbases, both the US and the RAF one were on the L/H side of cromwell ave as you travel towards ASDA from the sankey way road. Burtonwood road separated the US and the RAF bases when i first started working in the area. and you used to drive along it and see line after line of jeeps/ambulances and all sorts of military equipment at what was known as header house on the US side. ALL of the chapelford villiage is on the US side and the RAF side. Im not sure if goldcliffe was built on part of the base. but i know for a fact there were some very serious ground pollution problems on certain parts of the RAF side, which involved our vehicles being checked for radiation whenever we left a certain part of the site, which i must add were sorted before building was allowed !!!!! The best way to check is visit the RAF BURTONWOOD museum at Gullivers world, and ask them…….they have allsorts of info available. and as far as i know the only buildings left have a link to the air base are the “TOBBACO HOUSES” as they are known locally, where USAF personel used to live with their famillies. And i think those have been emptied ready for demolition.
Great advice, Thanks Kev35
Sorry to divert this thread, is there a book or even better a website, that would tell me any missions my late great uncle (as in my fathers uncle) flew on, The only info i have is his name, unfortunately I only found out that he was part of a lancaster crew earlier this year, and there is nobody left alive to ask about his war record. although he can be seen in a colour film returning from a raid that was screened on the BBC a couple of years ago, and is now released on DVD. On the cover it says the film is about “No.1 group,RAF,1943..” can any info be captured from this?

Simply Stunning mate!!! 😮
just had a look at the NEWS section on the VTS website, and it says the reason the permit hasnt been renewed was down to structural tests not being done in time using XM603
As part of the 2005-7 Major servicing, a number of structural inspections had to be deferred, because it was not feasible to complete them on XH558’s airframe. It was planned by VTST and Marshal Aerospace, in agreement with BAE Systems and the Civil Aviation Authority, that these inspections would be carried out before the renewal of XH558’s Permit to Fly on 3rd July 2009, using the airframe of BAE Systems-owned Vulcan XM603 at Woodford, as part of the scrapping process of this aircraft. Unfortunately, despite best intentions, it has not yet proved possible to complete or establish mitigations for all these inspections. Consequently, we have currently not fully met the conditions that would enable the issue of XH558’s Permit to Fly renewal.
.
Does this mean the end is imminent for XM603 🙁
As a side issue, could anyone put a figure to how much fuel XH558 would have burned on its appearance at COSFRD earlier this month, and how much would that have cost. I recall the pilot of the VICTOR at Elvington telling me that just the two high speed taxi runs it did there two years ago, cost around £2000. So i cant even begin to guess what the Vulcan got through 😮
Stunning pics mate. 😉
Simply stunning shots. can i ask what lens/body you used, your images make mine look like dodgy polaroid shots 😮
Stunning mate, can i ask what lens/body u used………….the timing on the REDS is amazing mate……….im just off to delete all mine, after seeing yours 🙁
I dont know what happened, but we follwed the official signs off the m54 and queued through some country lanes and villiages for nearly two hours only, to be turned round and nearly go back to where we came from. Does anyone know what happened ? all in all it took us 4 hours to get to cosford and parked up. I wish id have follwed my satnav and used the later (much closer) junction. Getting out was well marshalled though and it took us less than 2 hours to get home. I thought the Typhoon sounded awsome on afterburner, and having not seen the reds for a year or two, i thought their display was excellent. All in all a great experience so a big well done to all involved.:D
The VULCAN showed up today as per programme and (according to the commentator) It was flown by an original BLACK BUCK pilot. The Aircraft did a great display, and left us on a full power climb and that awe inspiring trademark “HOWL”, I did feel sorry for the jet provost formation as they preceded the vulcan, and as soon as XH558 came into sight in the distance, everyones attentions turned to the distant delta shape. The only slight dissapointment was that SALLY-B couldnt make it to the show.
