around 12 years ago we de-commisioned the Primary sub-station on what was left of the old RAF BURTONWOOD site (the site that was OPPOSITE the US HEADER HOUSE side) and this was the only building left on the site, but every time we left site our vehicle had to have a radiation test on the wheels, Apparently the reason was that the substation was located near to the place where all the old aircraft instrumentation was dumped/buried and it contained small amounts af radioactive material. And this was 12 or so years ago, before health and safety was as big an issue as it is these days.
Well the victor has had more flight time this year hasnt it 😀
Will XH558 be ready for COSFORD next sunday as per original plan 😉
On standby, partucularly on the Q1 status, was there a system to have the engines pre-warmed (for want of a tech term) so that they literally could jump in a go…….from cold
sorry to turn this into a QRA Q&A post but i find the whole QRA subject fascinating, but what was the REACTION TIME, between getting the call and being actually airbourne.
Can i ask another noob question………….Why were the QRA hangars, built like they were, to me it looks as though they were built on a shoestring budget. was COST literally the major factor in the design. what a great subject , what is the future for the QRA hangars by the way
As of this morning it was still in one piece basking in the sunshine, as far as i could see through the haze, although looking at my pics, there seems to be a broken/missing cockpit window glass. and id imagine its a right mess inside too. what do you chaps think the chances of BAE allowing an organised guided photoshoot before the scrapmen move in. ive tried a few times officially, and it seems there is more chance of seeing 603 airworthy again than getting a close up photo.
Thats superb, Thanks for the info mate!!!
I dont bother going in the viewing park anymore… perfer it down on the mid section of 24R..
Depends what time you like to go i guess….. Im always early morning until the switch over.
Free to park… free to walk up and down!”
Sorry for such a newbie question, but how do i get to this mid section, and is it any good for piccies
That indeed is sad news, Really enjoyed the elvington shows. Lets keep fingers crossed for 2010 🙂
LOL LOL LOL 😀
its all a matter of priorites mate, the vulcan or the wife………i know which one id be attending, 😉 the lady with the delta wings!
She flew over northwich this afternoon (sun 7th), im guessing on the way to Southport 😮 the little lad came banging on the window screaming THE VULCAN, THE VULCAN
Thanks fella’s..;)
My son and I quite often drive down to cosford, and whilst the cold war building not being very good in photography terms. I find the whole place fascinating…..paints the cold war picture very well. I love just looking at the nuclear weapons and THOR, and im still amazed at the size of the deltawing on the vulcan. He likes the “DO NOT PRESS” thing, and also the hands on learning stuff.
whilst we were there on friday 29th aug, there was a big space prepared next to the comet, does anyone know if there is a new exhibit arriving ?
