“Come a see our two live one’s at Brunty “
I intend to ASAP , and i find the the QRA shed thread fascinating, And im sure its been said on this forum before but, you chaps that keep these aircraft servicable for people like me (noobs 😮 ) to see and learn about……deserve medals!!!!!
I too am really starting to like the lightning, I think its a combination of its shape and that intake, And the more i have looked into them, the more I am amazed, Id have never thought they had such a long service career…Thanks for the info fella’s 😉
Pardon the nievity but why is it so long…………..:o
Great pics pf the flight control panels, Great to see such attention is paid to the innards ans well as the externals………..any chance of more pics please 😀
thanks for the reviews, much appreciated coming from you guys, as the some of amazon reviews paint another picture!!! ill order it NOW!!!
Thanks chaps. the knowledge you have on this forum never fails to impress me……thanks again!!!;)
Now thats exactly what i wanted, great info chaps, much appreciated. whilst were on the subject what about the B1 & 2 Victors 😉
Had chance to speak to the pilots last year at ELVINGTON one of the talented chaps is an EX RED ARROW…………..But both of them were really friendly and more than willing to spend time speking to us…..made the show that bit more special…………….a great team;)
TRAGIC, its the same with XM603. went to take a look at her on saturday……
But at least when this one gets cut up it will have been stripped of all its parts for XH558. So as i said before, a big THUMBS UP for the chaps like the VICTOR crew that keep these birds breathing for people like myself to see. Whilst at ELVINGTON this year, we bumped into one of the crew, and when i asked how much fuel did it use for the fast taxi, he said “Oh about 2 GRAND” 😮
where were the above pictures taken, and when. Just love that ANTI FLASH livery, I am currently reading a V BOMBERS book, about their development, and both VICS and VULCS were really way ahead of their time, as im sure you are all aware.
Have always been a fan of the victor, Never forget our first outing to elvington museum, completely unaware of them having Lindy there, we checked out the location the night before the 2005 airshow, and was gobsmacked at the sight of a victor being prepared for towing down to the other end of the runway (having never seen one in the flesh)………I think we sat there for an hour just watching the crew check her out. And to see the TAXI and hear the engines roar was the highlight of the year, Sorry for the waffle, i meant to just say thanks for sharing the info and the pics. Keep up the good work!!! i trust we will see lindy strut her stuff in 2009 😉
seems there is a very anti RAF undercurrent going on for an aviation forum, I only wanted to some facts and compare them to what i had read, The book actually had an anti RN attitude, so i guess there is a real bitter rivalry between the forces, My personal opinion is that ALL THREE services are as important as each other, and most of all do such a great job…………Thanks for sharing your invalubale knowledge chaps, its most appreciated and taken on board 😉
im just posting what i have read in the book, and as you may guess by the one sided view, it was written by an ex RAF air marshall or something as high ranking. But i do believe (if the fugures in this book are to be believed) that the UK made a mistake when it decided to wholly place the nuclear deterrent at sea. and I feel the better option would have been to add an airborne deterrent and maybe even keeping a missile system such as THOR or its equivalent. The reason i say this is that as i am informed the actual Megatonnage of the weapons available to the uk was heavily reduced when handed to the NAVY and also made less versatile………Please excuse my nievity in this subject as im really just dipping my proverbial toe in the water, and havnt got the wealth of info you chaps have……………And yes SKYBOLT would still have seen us reliant on an american weapon, as would THOR, thats my mistake. Hope you chaps dont mind lamens like myself posting messages like this, But i find it a great way of learning….and also finding facts 😉 so cheers
Basically thats the route book takes, The decision to cancel skybolt was a political farce , a complete assasination of bomber command and lets not forget the scrapping of the promising TSR2 project………so that the deterrent could be handed over to the navy. and the UK does not now have an INDEPENDANT nuclear detterent, we are entirely dependent on the US, for our nuclear weapons. Thank so much for the info chaps,
A readiness alert of 15 minutes. without me digging my VULCANS,VICTORS & CUBA dvd out, does that mean that the crew were sat in caravans next to the Aircraft ready to go, I can never remember the alert details………I personally find this subject fascinating and the thought of our whole NUCLEAR FORCE sat there ready to go, a quite formidable one:eek:
