Wish I could take stunning shots like these too, The XH558 one is so sharp…….:)
reasons for no woodford visit explained on the newsletter released a few minutes ago……Site owners dont want traffic problems and any effect on their “sensitive” planning issues…..and fuel/cost issues….

As a regular contributor to the cause, by both donating and buying all the VTTS DVD’s I am dissapointed in the no show at Woodford, and for them to say it was there last month, but as I said in the other post NONE OF US PLEBS KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE THERE!!!! and as far as i can see its not coming anywhere in the NW, so we wont even see it in transit to its flypasts…….AGAIN its too late now, but what an oppurtunity for BOTH VTTS and AVRO Heritage to maybe get a few quid in the coffers, or at least raise awareness by opening up the now totally non secret Woodford site to visitors and see 558 flypast…:(

Living 20 miles away Im quite dissapointed WOODFORD wasnt included at the very least, yes it was there a couple of weeks ago, but it wasnt announced to the general public so us “plebs;)” didnt get to see it…..for one reason or another I havnt been able to get my Vulcan-fix this year 😡

To add my humble thoughts……..I can see why they didnt publish the Woodford flypast, as most of you know the only real veiwing point to see 558 and 603 together (of sorts) would mean the single track road to the golf club being TOTALLY jammed up and causing chaos….However perhaps if thought of earlier, for a small fee perhaps people could have been given access to the now totally unsecret BAE site. which could have raised funds for 558 and the Avro Heritage Centre, and also perhaps an oppurtunity to see 603 close up…..?
However I do think the Elvington flypast should have been published (it wasnt was it?) as I would have driven the 90 min journey to see both the AVRO machines do their flypast…….and If Elvington can handle airshows, there shouldnt be too much trouble with crowds and traffic etc etc, and what an oppurtunity for the Air museum to make a few quid…..
Nice to see the LPG boys getting some much deserved coverage too……
Thats great info, shifting subject slightly the programme gave a two sided opinion on TSR2, and I was suprised to hear one chap saying that it wasnt anywhere near what it was cracked up to be so to speak…….I havent heard a statement knocking the aircraft as such, but then again I have only probably watched and read the “propaganda” side of the story…..
I remember an old friend telling me that the Canberra had a habit of tipping up the front end if it wasnt fuelled up in a specific manner…….
Can I just add a lamens comment…..I thought both programmes gave a great snapshot of Britains aviation heritage, and as a lamen I learnt a lot from the two……I do realise for you learned chaps it wass probably a beginners guide, and you probably know the ins and out of evey aircraft shown, but personally I found it very informative…..
quick qustion for you VC10 buffs, with having the engines mounted at the back, were there big differences to design into the airframe in terms of balance etc etc, as opposed to a standard wing mounted set-up.
what a great story 😮
Great info…..never doubted reliability…just dissapointed theres now “IFE” as you call it (at the risk of sounding like a tourist that cant be away from a TV screen whislt travelling more than 20 mins) LOL, Thanks for the reply!!
Can I add my thanks and thoughts to this thread……..I used to enjoy reading and seeing the pics of how you LPG guys worked so hard to get this chunk of cold war history up and running , and now youre actually “SCRAMBLING” from the QRA station its amazing to see, Thanks so much for all your hard work and time acheiving what you have achieved, so that armchair fans like me can see how it used to be THANKS AGAIN!!!!
