I certainly hope the new is correct……An anti-flash vulcan thats only 30 mins drive from my house…
Can I add my best wishes to all on here for sharing the wealth of knowledge and educating newbies such as me, and also id like to echo the comments above to all the guys n gals that give so much of their time and money to keep all our favourite aircraft in good health, so they can be seen and HEARD….THANKS and ALL THE BEST!!!
a quick rattle of a trident or two might quieten them down too 😉
Send HMS Invincible and her fleet of Harrie……… oh……
This made me laugh 🙂
Great topic chaps!!!
Excellent info gents, what a wealth of knowledge, and t hanks for sharing (teaching) others!!!!
Now i have confused myself 😮 were there 2 vulcans at farnborough, as if you watch the film at the beginning, you do actually see a vulcan with the modded leading edge, but further on, during the actual roll isnt that a vulcan with the unmodified leading edge (pure delta), again apologies for my lack of knowledge…
Fantastic, what a treat to see another Vulcan alive!!! WELL DONE to all those involved
Sorry my mistake, also I am I right in thinking that the 301’s dont produce the “howl” 😮
Wow theres a depth of knowledge here…….so is the original statement correct and just one Olympus (301) is more pwerfull than a grid of F1 cars (pardon my nievity:o)
excuse the lack of knowledge is this company owned by the chap who bought the airport at Coventry….:o
Great answer thank you….;)
To add my thoughts to the topic, I was(still am) a complete newbie to historic aircraft, and only had eyes for the spits and lancs due to an intrest in ww2, but this forum and the most learned guys on here have awaken a keen interest in all things aviation, especially cold war jets……the great thing about this forum is that the guy’s (and girls) on here dont think themselves to aloft to answer basic and sometimes obvious (to them) questions about all subjects which doesnt make me afraid to as questions like “what does this bit do” etc etc……and the depth of knowledge and experience is excellent….I have learnt a lot from this forum and hope to continue so………..THANKS SO MUCH!!!
excellent info thanks guys!!!
Whilst as Cosford I also stood under the Vulcan, and with seeing it in the skies at a distance you (well i do) just how huge the wing area is, and comparing that the the small span of the TSR2 ……was the TSR2 years ahead of its time in terms of design of the wings or just as moggy has said, just not designed to have the agilty of a fighter!!!
an ICBM targetted all airfields the Vs operated from, including all dispersal sites
Its makes you “shudder” when you think of just how much of the UK would have been targeted….and if it did kick-off how much of the UK would be destroyed. Im guessing probably the biggest target nearest to me would have been USAF/RAF Burtonwood because as you guys know it was a huge storage/forwarding depot to feed a war in Europe….and a V-Bomber dispersal point….Id love to find out if there were any loaded aircraft at Burtonwood during the days surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis awaiting a scarmble!!!
