An immense film, love it, but on BluRay?? why, only thinking in image terms/quality etc
Why not? Film is far higher resolution than DVD and Bluay can take advantage of that.
Nothing bizarre about it, the only topside shots I’ve ever managed to get where from outside the the airshow. my son was on the flight for a few years
and even he mentioned the fact that the paying public only got to see the underside, perhaps my first post was missing a few of these:D:D:D.
Here’s one of PA474 taken at East Kirby on 27th August 2007. If you click on the pic there’s several more in the gallery from different angles.
Anyway good luck the brothers in get her back in the air. It would be great to see a couple of Lancs a few spits, and hurricanes in formation.:D
I can agree with that bit 🙂
Does anybody know when Pacific will hit the BBC? No doubt BBC will take it on again as they did the original Band of Brothers series, I would guess a couple of months at least.
A very very long time. Band of Brothers was co-produced with the BBC, The Pacific isn’t (but with Network 7 Australia).
It looks nice. Is there going to be a Bluray release? It was promised last year, I think, but never materialised 🙁
I’m not really interested in a DVD.
A lovely set of photos, thanks for putting that together – it must have taken you ages. I primarily enjoy the history of WW2, but also find WW1 very interesting.
I managed to visit the grave of my great great uncle recently and it was quite a moving experience, even though he was only a distance relative, and died in decades ago.
I find the sacrifices that the older generation made to be quite astonishing – my great great uncle actually demoted himself so that he could fight on the front line!

The grave before there was a proper stone there.

Period photo of the grave.

A similar kind of view today.

I was very disappointed not to see the TFC – admittedly I didn’t look at the list of participants before going. Sad also not to see the Lanc. Not bad however, but not as enjoyable as last year, I think.
It was improved also on the occasions when the tannoy (repeatedly) broke down and we got a moments peace from the tediously incessant witterings of Bernard Chabbert. It was quite amusing that people cheered when it broke, and jeered when it came back.
Hi TEEJ,
Fantastic, thank you hugely 🙂 I did email BBMF but haven’t had a reply, I’ll try to remember to phone them on Monday. The Lanc is my favourite aircraft and I love seeing it at airshows, so seeing it in Normandy is something I’m really looking forward too. Cheers.
Here is my suggested itinerary:

There are also photos of nearly all of the sites.
I’d like this as well. I remember it was announced as being out in December, but as google can’t find any references to it now, I guess it’s been dropped 🙁
I mailed the address at the bottom of here to ask http://www.flyingmachinestv.co.uk/page2/page2.html will try to remember to update if I hear anything.
Love the Raptor pics, thanks.
If you hit that into google, you’ll find lots of answers in probably a lot more detail anybody is going to go into here 🙂
To take Flying Legends as an example, I took 1619 shots on Sunday.
About 20 of these will be complete write offs, completely out of focus, people standing in the way, very little of the plane etc.
I’ve ended up with 531 keepers that vary from OK to those that I’m very pleased with – you can see those here: http://gallery.chrishowells.co.uk/2008/20080713%20Flying%20Legends%20Duxford/JPEGs/
I then go through those and look at the best – I got 20 odd that I’m very pleased with, you can see those here: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=82537
So basically I end up with about 25% worth keeping.
I take so many shots because I put the camera into multiple shot mode and jam my finger on the button, which allows me to take a variety of quite similar photos and choose the best.
It took me around 12 hours to go through all the photos and do all the post processing (discarding, cropping, sorting out the lightness etc).
Great shots, just a shame that there is not so much movement in the props.

Yeah, that’s a good point. Shutter speeds were a bit fast at times, although it was quite hard metering as one moment the camera was pointing into the sun, the next into cloud. Thanks for your comment.
Here’s a few more anyway
i always got told with a dslr the lens is different to a 35mm, so say 200mm is actually 290mm something to do with the way dslr works.
Not quite. It depends on the sensor size:
EOS 400D, 20D, 30D, 40D etc: sensor 1.6x smaller than that of a 35mm camera
EOS 1DMK III: sensor 1.3x smaller than that of a 35mm camera
EOS 5D, 1DS MK III: sensor exactly the same size of a 35mm camera
So you multiple the focal length of the lens by 1.6, 1.3 or 1, depending on the dSLR it’s attached to.
