Good work Ewan … I know stalls need to be pre-booked, but is there any chance there “may” be a stall available on the day.. ??
Just nabbed a used DVD off ebay.. they’re out there if you look for them :eagerness:
Thanks for your interest.. haven’t opened this box for many decades now, and found a few more, some are prewar diecasts (the big DC2 and the Supermarine racer, ) and I believe anecdotally, the postwar ones are mainly sandcast, made by struggling local foundries from war scrap metal.. the Mustang and Airacobra are aluminium.. can anyone identify the flying boat fuselage and lower wing ??
Ok.. I have just started a new thread “My Life in Aviation” Lt/Capt Alan Lane, with an audio download link. It was a 45 minute talk Dad recorded in his eighties just before he passed away, and described the Manston incident, amongst many others.
I do stand thoroughly corrected though, the Manston RAF Officers response was nothing like I described it, my recollection was 43 odd years old, and the cassette, to clarify has come to light only in the last few months.
So, almost six years after I started this thread, I have found, amongst Dads flight papers, a record of this event, and can now confirm the station he landed at was Manston… thanks again for all your contributions.
Scroll down for 8 more photos…
Any word from your friend regarding whether he was on the flight? I would love to hear from him.

Yes.. I’ve contacted Dave, and he’s confirmed he WAS on that flight, and that he escaped through that crack in the fuselage. I’ve posted a link to this thread on his FB page, so it’s over to him from here…
I’m very sure a friend of mine, Dave Cousins, was on that flight too.. I’ll try and contact him
I may’ve got this all wrong, but here we go.. I visited Duxford three weeks ago from Oz, we got to the F-15 under refurbishment, and specifically to an American guy sanding down the nosecone. We listened to a conversation he was involved in, and it went something like this… ” The EU have issued a directive to Duxford, in respect of “suspended” aircraft in the museum, especially in the US display needing to be lowered to ground level because of Occupational Health and Safety issues.. Is there any substance to this .. ??
Haa.. as a little lad, we used to hide in that pillbox, quickly duck out when a train was coming and put pennies on the line.. more money than sense eh !! 🙂 Awesome photo btw..
Matt-100.. Melbourne Herald-Sun today reported the first officer recently having invited two attractive young ladies from the passenger queue, to join them on the flight deck for the TOTAL duration of that flight, including Take off and Landing.. photos include them posing for photos, and the girls wearing the Captains Cap etc.. Seriously NOT looking good for Malaysian.
Excellent Daniel.. thanks for sharing. (btw, thought it was THIS weekend, not last, you’ve saved me a journey mate.)
Agreed TonyT.. and sincere thanks to Daniel, for his many posts here on this “Open” forum.. your enthusiasm, and tenacity, are very much appreciated… cheers mate !
Thank you fana.. good point, well made. I’ll be sure to remember that, next time it happens.
The Vulcan low level was apparently a passing out parade at RAF Swinderby, it’s been debated at length on their FaceBook page, together with which, a first hand account by one of the personnel in the photo.
