..thanks for sharing those, I always though the Defiant could, aesthetically, have been a fine looking aircraft if it hadn’t been lumbered with the turret..was there ever a variant proposed without the turret.??

I’ve always wondered how much more ( if any ) durable a newly manufactured Merlin (for example) would be in this day and age, given the quantum leaps made in metallurgy and lubrication since WW2….??

..Flew out of Southend, around 1957 as a young lad in a Viking to Berlin ( Overseas Airways..?)..seem to remember the Viking had a wing spar box section going right through the cabin necessitating a big step over it for the long suffering stewardess..

Also remember saving up for a flight in a blue Prentice with Orange (no joke) windows..happy days.

Sincere thanks again to all for their genuine interest and assistance, it is very much appreciated, I will follow all suggested leads and will advise an end result.

Forester, your comments are precisely correct in respect of command authority as it was in those days (and as I remember it to be), and yes, Dad spent a long time earlier on the woomera run with Air Charter on DC-4s, and later on the BUA “Africargo” run on DC-6s, and (later I think) on Britannias.

    Thanks again.

I can’t recall that, unless in a very minor role. Ann Todd (dir David Leans’ partner) was co star and Dinah Sheridan also appeared.

Muriel Pavlow did appear in Reach For The Sky and Malta Story though.

How about someone (Daz?!) tackling the lists and serials of aircraft appearing in the great WWII epics, ie Dambusters, Reach For The Sky, Battle of Britain etc?!:D

    Pagen01

You are correct, and thanks for that, it was indeed Anne Todd….

    Awesome film tho…
