Thanks for the heads up Balliol and slicer..I’ll order a copy.

Haven’t seen it for at least forty years (..!!) but I didn’t recall the Freighter being RATO equipped..

Anyone know if a Freighter actually did do trials fitted with RATO..??

    That genuinely upset me…

the only very slightly uplifting moment was the lovely Commer TS3 taking the five Merlins away..

Sorry to digress a little…but the only civilian I have ever seen fly a Harrier was “The Saint” in episode #85 , it looks like a Kestrel to me, but is amusingly refered to in the episode as an “Osprey”

..stolen by a corrupt RAF pilot, flown to croatia en route to russia, but recovered and flown back to UK by an untrained Simon Templar assisted by the semi comatose RAF pilot…

..but you did mention the word “Fantasy” in the thread preamble didn’t you…?:)

    A.T.A Dvd…

The IWM ( http://www.iwm.org.uk ) have a fantastic dvd called “Ferry Pilot”, that follows a typical day in the lives of a group of ATA pilots in 1941.

The film features many types, and pilots, but the highlight is delivery of a Whitley, by a first time whitley pilot, and superb footage of Alex Henshaw air testing a new spitfire….

Please hunt down a copy of this dvd, it will definately not disappoint…

Just a few dodgey snaps from about early 1976’ish..little bit faded but they may be of interest.
My Dad Alan Lane, is in front of the Sea Fury, he flew them in Korea, then joined Freddie Laker in 1954,flying everything Air Charter had from Yorks to Brittannias, eventually retiring with BCAL on DC-10s in 1986
I spent many hours flying with dad, mostly in DC-4 g-anyb.
