I don’t know why people think Gripen is the cheaper solution. As new aircraft compared to used F-16 it would be witchcraft to sell them cheaper.
Those MLU F-16 will come nearly for free.
Add to this the weapons. As long as Meteor is not available, I don’t see Gripen been sold with a complete package.
Gripen is (as the €F) only compatible to AMRAAM-B, which is out of production. Only source would be US stocks. And you can bet the US would not be in a hurry, to deliver. Have a look at the Czech examples. Flying till today with old winders.

Czech Air Force uses M version of sidewinder for gripens and AMRAAMs C-5 are ordered already almost 2 years(they must be delivered at this time, because info from ministry od defence said date delivering “the end of 2006” some time ago)

Hello Rumcajs…. do you know how is the Gripen implementation gone in the Czech R. and how was the type conversion training structured for the pilots?

I sorry, I don´t know, I am not member of 211.tactical squadron and gripen pilot

Man, all military acquisition programs nowdays HAVE offset programs.

of cource, but one thing is to promise offset and the sedond is to fill that. Sweden does in the Czechlands what promised (even before gripens delivering), but try to ask about promised US offsets filling in Poland (I mean to promise equals to sign agreement)

Aero Vodochody had bad time under Boeing, not today. Aero is starting producing of new Sikorski S-76D (up to day have produced S-76C++), Aero prepare producing of new own plane Ae-270 Ibis, Aero is starting centre wing boxes of C-27J Spartan production , it produces emergency doors for Airbus, F-18 gundoors for Boeing and produces L-159T1 Albatros II two-seater trainers for Czech Air Force (two-seater version similar to B version, the first will be delivered in January 2006), 4 months ago Czech government and Aero signed contract for CzAF L-159 modernisation plan and service support for CzAF L-159 and L-39 fleet up to 2025.
This week Czech government and Aero announce official L-159A selling offer for Nigeria on Nigerian request from last week. 14 days ago Indonesian goverment have announced interest in new L-159B advanced trainers for its air force and “eastern version” of L-159 is prepared (with Ukrainian engine and French electronic systems)
I guess it don´t look like company in “hard times” (yes it had financial problems, but Czech government resolved that and Aero was sold in october 2006 to private company PENTA, and it want and support military and civilian program as well). That´s mistake to think about a bad quarter of an hour in Aero. Bad days were under Boeing, but Boeing was kicked out from Aero in 2004 for 2 Czech crowns (sic!), thanx for God.

and about L-159B. If L-159B is an outsider so it´s not technical and combat abilities question. Here you can see info abou L-159B (without radar version) and L-159A (same as of Czech Air force). The first prototype of B version is from 2002 and has same or better abilities as/than CzAF A version (producing started in 1999) except less fuel capacity. Of course the abilities depends on software and if I know energetical and board computer capacity is used in current CzAF versions of about 40-45%. I don´t know exactly but does BAe offer some radar version of twoseater Hawk? Can a two-seater Hawk carry for example AMRAAM, maverick, brimstone, paveway II…. ?
Of course there is whole support, training and diagnostic systems and simulators (flight simulator, emergency eject simulator, simulator of cockpit procedures etc) in L-159 pack. BWT in India and SAR L-159B was evaluated as better and more suitable then Hawk, but in SAR won gripen over F-18 (hawk was offered with gripen as set, Albatros II with F-18) and for fear of possible US embargo or obstruction L-159 was refused in India ( about 40% equipment is made in USA, it´s reason for preparing “eastern version” with Ukrainian engine and French electronic systems). And in the middle of this year Czech government answered “no” to Aero´s request for selling L-159 to Venezuela (“eastern version”).
If Greece refuses L-159 no tragedy for Aero, and in Czech newspapers you cannot read nothing abou Greece new trainer competition. I remember only some not important info abou Greece Air force chief visit in the Czechlands and in Aero some time ago. About Nigerian request and Indonesian interest you can read though.

there is links and several photos what can be carried by any L-159 version

THE HELLENIC AIR FORCE HAS EXPRESSED INTEREST IN ACUIRING 45 NEW GENERATION LEAD IN TRAINER AIRCRAFTS FOR THE IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT OF ITS OLD T2E BUCKEYE FLEET. AMONG THE STRONGEST CONTESTANTS IN THIS ALMOST ONE BILLION US$ WORTH PROGRAMME, APPEAR TO BE THE ITALIAN AERMACCHI M-346, THE BAE systems HAWK AJT (Advanced Jet Trainer) AND THE KAI T-50 GOLDEN EAGLE (PRODUCED IN CLOSED COOPERATION WITH LM). L-159 IS AN OUTSIDER. YAK-130 (IN WHICH M-346 IS BASED) IS WIDELY THOUGHT NOT TO BE A PROSPECT AT ALL. ANY NEWS IN RELATION TO THIS PROGRAMME OR ANY OF YOUR THOUGHTS WITH REGARDS THE PROPOSED AIRCRAFTS, ARE MOST THAN WELCOMED. B.REGARDS

Aero L-159B Albatros II is an outsider? Why? It´s your opinion or chiefs of Air Force?

Very nice, esp. the formation pics 🙂

Also interesting to see Gripens with live missiles. I wonder why the Sidewinders are not carried on wingtip pylons. Are Czech people smaller than Swedish? 😀

😀 as I said above
(but still I cannot see Czech gripens with AMRAAMs, this autumn they should have been delivered)

thanx for wish, bwt in 2010 will be finalised full state of CzAF supersonics fleet and in according with “Vize 2010” – future army layout, CzAF will have minimally 24 supersonics or better 36 (dependly on financial budget) since 2015. But the type isn´t sure, maybe some further gripens (or completely all 24-36 of new gripen version) or another type. Government and army will come to a resolution in 2010. Current gripens can be returned to Sweden in 2015 or Czech governement can buy them for rest price.
