The T-50 specs posted there is virtually identical to what you would find on a Su-3X series.. it’s silghtly longer than all the flankers, but slightly shorter than the Fullback.
compare it with this..

So ultimately basic performance seems the same.. not bad as the Flanker has great range and carrying capacity. plus with an AESA type radar and internal carriage too.
did he give any comments on how it is superior, as well recognizing or downplaying any of the commonly associated flaws? It is rather common to find one who defends their aircraft no matter what they fly.
The problem with the F-18’s twin tails is that they were susceptible to the vortexes, which resulted in constant repair.. it was corrected by some thin “wing roots” near the LERX.
what’s the story behind this picture? supposedely it was a 5th generation Sukhoi LFI?

The F-2 was only slightly longer than the F-16, 49ft 6in, vs 50 ft 1 in.. only a 7 inch difference. What made it physically different was primarily the larger wing made out of composites, this was primarily done to accomodate more stores, as it was required to carry up to 4 ashm’s on both wings, something a normal F-16 couldn’t do.
At the time they selected the GE F-110-GE-129 engine, which was more powerful than what other F-16’s had at that time, but eventually ended up being used also, by B.50/52 F-16s.
Internally the airplane was completely different witn indigenous radar and avionics
Russian 5th generation fighter to fly in 2007, says air force chief
03-Dec-2004 17:31 GMT Source: Financial Times Limited
The electronic model of the 5th generation fighter is ready, its aerodynamics and other parameters calculated,” he said.
Electronic Model? they could’ve just said CG or artist rendition :p
but I am really curious to how it looks, I hope they’ll release a picture of it soon.
Hell i’d love to see USN Rafales instead of Blooper Hornets, but the chances of us buying French are about the same as Pakistan or China getting JSFs and F/A-22s 😀
As for the F-35 being a flying pig, many a test pilot would disagree, and Lockheed has solved the weight issues. [/URL]
Thanks for the link, I really appreciate it, but one can’t help but feel that they may be biased towards their own product :dev2:
besides, we will be returning the favor to the French who bought the F-8 for their carriers.. Rafale will do just fine 🙂
but all seriousness.. Srbin has a good point.. if the F-35C can do the things it is claimed to do, isn’t having the F-18E/F’s a bit redundant? Especially since the aircraft isn’t that much cheaper, and too costly as an interim alternative until the JSF comes online.
The Navy really does need their equivelent to the F-22, whether its’ a navalized version, the YF-23, or an entirely new design

You know, that’s a good point. I didn’t really look at it from that angle. Maybe they want a nuclear deterrent to hang over Moscow’s head as a bargaining chip for the Sakhalin Island (I think that’s the right chain) dispute? Just an off the wall thought. I’m good at those 😀
not to nitpick, but it’s the Kurile Island chain, of which Japan claims the southern 4 as their Northern territories. Sakhalin is definitely recognized by Japan and the rest of the world as Russian.. what few native races they had there were mostly deported to Japan.. there’s only 4000, Nivkhs, 200 Oroks, and no Ainu there today, but alot of Russians and Koreans. 🙂
a joint aircraft between KAI (Korean Aerospace Industries) and Bell, the SB 427
I am not sure but I heard China ordered some of these
Now as for F-18E/F, I am not sure but I know with the F-35C they will replace just about every other combat aircraft on US Carriers except E-2Cs I believe.
SOC may kill me for saying this but,…
woe is the future of US naval airwing as they’ll be stuck with a flying pig and a drag queen
perhaps they should consider the Rafale :dev2:
They are very different. The drawing has inward canted fins, the CG has outward canted fins like the F-22.
There’s also that little fence by the fin, not sure if that really helps for RCS.
Cockpit has a frame in the canopy in the drawing, but the CG is frameless.
I think this is more of a fan art if anything.
I still favor the Su-30MKM and Rafale combo with the prospect of common avionics components and weapons, but that’s just me.
would you not prefer a smaller fighter, something that could make up numbers and generate high sortie rates to “sortie” rate the enemy to death, as Kurt would best say it. Not sure about the Rafale, but i don’t think this is something a heavy fighter like the Flanker can do.
True about Gripen! a Su-30MKM and Gripen combination would be very interesting.. although a Gripen and Hornet combination would be logistically more preferable.
However isn’t the Rafale supposed to have rather low operation and maintanability costs comparable to at least the F-16?
great I’d like to read it!
with TVC, would the Flanker still really need those canards?
due to the reluctance of US to release higher performance F/A-18F armaments to Malaysia. Current malaysian F/A-18D only mount lesser weapons such as AIM-7 sparrow, AGM-84A, Maverick, LGB, etc.. No AMRAAM, no HARM, no AGM-84C.
I don’t see why they’re bothering with the bug or super bug. For the money you pay for the Super bug, they might as well go for the Rafale, at least you will get MICA, and in the near future, AASM. An Su-30MKM and Rafale combo will be an interesting but expensive.
