Anyone remember which factory in Russia produces which FLANKERs?

KNAAPO in Khomsomolsk-na-Amur in Khabarovsk Krai (the Russian Far East near China) usually the square tipped Flankers are from here, as well as regular ones

IAPO in Irkutsk in Eastern Siberia (NOT the Russian Far East, but near Mongolia) MKI, MKM

NAPO in Novosibirsk in Western Siberia, they make the Su-32/34 series.

The Malaysians are really paying alot for theirs! about 50mn USD per airframe. I thought India was going to produce some of the fueselage?

    to SOC:

I’ve strong doubts about the Kazakhstan Su-27’s. the camouflage Kazakhstan uses is the same as the Russian one..the standard drab blue. I am confident that Su-27 you have there is Uzbek.

    Thoses drawings are official?

Looks like an F-22 in a uglier way (personal opinion).
    Well….if it flies well.

I hope not, the drawings are all inconsistant with each other.. you have two that have an YF-22 style forward fueselage with a long radome and bubble canopy, while the other ones have a much smaller radome and canopy. The drawing with the Yak-141 has 2d nozzles, while the rest have 3d.

I’ve a feeling the picture with the bald guy and model really is an YF-22

i thought the Kopyo is intended only for the mig 21 bis upgrade…
the Zhuk-ME have better detection range 160km? and are compatable with the R-77, the Kh-59M ASM etc…

There was an Su-25 variant that had it installed, I forgot the name. and it’s not the podded Su-39 either. The recent revelations of the MiG-21 Bison at Cope India had me looking at this radar again and what kind of capabilities it has versust he ZHuk ME

btw, doesn’t China want the Zhuk series on their MKKs?

Thanks for the information, it was really helpful for my research.

I’m a bit surprised that the F-16’s had enough fuel for such a journey.

At around 4 billion USD for that many aircraft, it makes it much cheaper per plane than many of it’s other European contemporaries. (approximately $67 m illion)

I agree with Jonesy, forming 2 squadrons out of Saudi surplus F-5s should be sufficient, especially if the “BR” upgrade will give it BVRAAM capabilities, and an operational cost a 1/3rd of an F-18. Pretty good core aircrafts for a fledgeling air force. I’m not too sure about the component of what Bosnia has right now, but doesn’t it lack any fixed wing fighter? If they had a decent quantity of MiG-21s, then the Bison option would be nice, but for the time being, the F-5s are more ideal.

However given that the region is known for incursions and what not, I would rather invest in some Mi-35’s rather than Tucanos, good fire power and some decent transport capabilities make it very needed.

Personally I think all current production fighter aircraft (aside from the Su-30 series) are overpriced.

Amen to that one! Although I think the F-16I was rather cheap (friendship prices to Israel? 😉 )

Possible new interest in the FC-1 (or F-7G) from South America?

A bit of a surprise because I couldn’t think of Chinese equipment bought by Colombia before except for the Y-12 light transport. The only Chinese jet considered by a Latin America country was the K-8 trainer by Venezuela.

When it said Brazil, S.Korea, USA, China, etc.. I figured it would be some kind of armed turboprop or trainer aircraft like the Super Tucano.. however then it said fighter jet.. I can assume it might be asking for the FC-1, A-50, and AMX?

that was shown before a long time ago, it simply was a show about the Rafale shown on Chinese television. I mean, the Chinese do televise other aircraft other than their own.

Asked by a reporter why Japan could not identify the vessel’s nationality a day into the chase, Hosoda said: “Because it’s under water.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I found this incredibly funny 😀
