mate if u haven’t realised…. the relationship between China and Vietnam is getting worse over the Nansha Islands problem.

its unlikely that Vietnam will be buying Chinese FC-1s fighters and JL-8 trainers

Actually I think it’s getting better.. if you can read Chinese check out this article I found on CDF (sorry for those who are unable to read it)

which would essentially mean that almost every disputed border is solved, except for the Spratleys/Nansha, and then the issue over the Mekong River. Other than that.. there is far more positive interaction between the two than negative. But you’re right.. I don’t expect Vietnam to use any major weapons systems from China in the forseeable future.

No, not military wise. But Europe and Russia have strong economical relations. Much of our oil and gas comes from Russia, as well as many other raw materials. Further more, Russia has become a large market for western european goods.

Do you think that if some nation was at odds with Russia, say Georgia or Azerbaijan, etc. and they decided to purchase French.. do you think France would buckle into Russian objections? I always viewed France and Russia as particularly close.

Hey, politics aside, the French produce some really good hardware. Dassault’s aircraft have ever been very good multirole fighters. Make an good contract with Dassault, get some local maintenance capability and everything is fine. (Except you try to invade an close ally of France).

would you consider Russia a close ally of France?

does anybody knows what happened with colonel Tomb from the north vietnamese air force?
ok we saw Randy Cunningham saying he shot him down, but did he survive? who knows?
i’d love to hear or read about him, that man knew how to fly and i have a very deep respect for him. 😎
    Camaro.

it’s widely believed that Colonel Tomb was fictional. Regardless, the NVAF had 16 aces compared to just 2 aces the US had during the war. (Randy Cunningham and Steve Ritchie)

    😮

Will those additional 40 planes ever get to see the lights of day if and when
the Americans has already decided to dispatched 7 flat decks to the region along with some
2 dozen or so F-117 stealth fighters
to the region in a sheer show of force???

No, the 7 carriers to the region was nothing more than a CMFer who’s generally over exaggerates things, when in reality the 7 were going to various areas.

Can the 29K’s radome fit the Bars radar? I’m guessing there will have to be some work done to make a smaller version.

I wonder what kind of Western Alternative they’ve contemplated about.. the RDM/RDY? or Elta?..

Well Glenn, I’m sure you read my reply in the Basement forum.. perhaps the fastest way for them to develop a 5th generation fighter is probably to either imitate or use an existing design as their base (like how they normally would’ve).. and since there is a limited number of 5th generational types, and all being American (most Japanese weapons seem to at least appear similar to Western European types).. perhaps we’ll see a design that looks similar to the YF-23 I hope 😀 or even the Boeing JSF 😮

    that’s a big if.

anyways, here was a model of one of the early FSX designs.. It was posted here originally, however I forgot whom was the poster who deserves the credit.

I sure do wish that this original concept went through.. judging by the model, it looks like it would’ve been a fighter about the size of the F-18. Like Golden Dragon said.. indigenous engines would’ve been a problem.. the only other alternatives during that scenario I can imagine, is using the Turbo-Union RB.199-34R

thanks ofr the link.. it’s a bit funny to see that one of the configurations looks quite a bit like the F-35’s configuration

Hmm I was thinking about something similar with Japan. Since Japan needs to replace their F-15Js and F-4s with a 5th generation fighter. They would probably be ideal to make an aircraft like the YF-23..perhaps buy the blueprints.. as they seem to be able to “copy” numerous designs from elsewhere.. install an improved version of their AESA radar installed in the F-2.. and load it up with AAM-4s..

    or for another alternative..

a Yak-141, installed with the latest Zhuk-M radar..seeing as how it seemed to use MiG-29s avionics..how about giving it the latest of MiG-29 avionics.

The Sony PSP looks good with it’s big screen and graphics.. however I don’t think it’ll be popular with users because of it’s very low battery life..and from what I’ve seen.. isn’t THAT small.. you’d need a very big pocket for it.

I think the Nintendo DS is much more innovative even if the screen is smaller.

Actually no, they are not just simple unit prices. Look at the many deals, such as the intial Chinese, Indian, Indonesian and all kinds of other deals where everything is included. In the Brazilian deal, everyone tried going low, The Gripen was offered for 50mn, the Su-35 for 35mn and etc. They all included spares, support and all the other ****.

I was wondering where you got the figures for 50mn for the Gripen in the Brazilian deal, I’ve been looking high and low for some numbers and couldn’t find any, other than the expected value of the competition.
