Sounds like there might be problems in composite-land… and the fire in the Indonesian vessel cannot have boosted the USN’s confidence in the safety of the material any.

So it is a “plan B” in case the contract negotiations for the composite deckhouse cannot be concluded at a price the USN is willing to pay, and in case tests show its fire-safety characteristics are unacceptable..

Is gonna be more convertional in appearance or like pyramide just the current superstructure?

R.I.P Big E. It’s a shame she could be transformed into ship museum. US have a long tradition to maintain a huge number of naval floating museums. It is a nuclear powered ship but other nuclear ships like LENIN icebreaker are kept as historical monuments

Russian navy is at the final stages of designing work for a new nuclear (more than 90% probable according to admiral Visotskiy) powered cruiser/destroyer project. I want to ask if someone has more detailed information about that issue.

If the 3M14 kalibr missile has a limited range of 300km in order to meet the international requirements for export, is possible the kalibr witch is russian use only to have range comperable to the tomahawk?

As for the apparent short range of Klub land attack missiles, that’s a concession to the MTCR for exportability. Technically, it owes much to the nuclear 3M10 Granat which has a much longer reach and for domestic applications a Klub variant with similar capabilities should be easy to develop.

3M10 and 3M14 have the same size so 3M10 could be fitted in the new Gorshkov’s VLS. Then why they don’t arm the project 22350 with the non export 3M10 Granat? There is no sence for a Land Attack weapon to have just 250km range. LACM’s supposed to replace aircrafts for bombarmeds to the deep inland.

The land attack missile of Klub family known as 3M14 Kalibr, has a lot of similarities with Tomahawk, but why has so limited range? 250 km is too short for such land attack weapon.

“Some rumors say we have flying saucers at Area 51. . .”

With this kind of irony, seems that you have the same IQ level with Sara Palin and those “tea party” participants…

    Anyway,

I ve written about some rumors (for the time of being nothing is official, exept that the vessel will carry a 5000km range weapon), from various sites.

Some rumors metions that the new project 885 SSN will be armed with cruise missiles of extended range (5000km). Some sources reports also that some kirovs that will be modernized could also fit with those strategic cruise missiles.

Thats funny becouse just about **EVERY** article or written text about pr. 885 descripes it’s weaponry little bit different than the other…

A few photos of kh-101 being carried by Tu-95 saws a stlealth body, like air launched SCALP. If the 3100nm ranged missile is finally a navalised kh-101 this will be a vesrion with cylindrical shape like SCALP naval. An improved version of granat with extended range is also possible. If cruise missiles like granat are launched from torpedo tubes, I wonder why SSBNs like Delta VI carring only SS-N-16 stallion?

Axing DDG 1000 Radar Could Save Money, Enable BMD

The Pentagon’s move to delete half the radar system for the U.S. Navy’s DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class destroyers could save more than $600 million and may eventually open the door to giving the ships a ballistic missile defense capability, industry sources said.

The decision to eliminate the S-band Volume Search Radar (VSR) from the ship’s Dual Band Radar (DBR), announced June 1 as part of a program restructuring brought on by a Nunn-McCurdy breach, means the ship will rely on the Raytheon SPY-3 X-band Multi-Function Radar (MFR) as its primary radar.

Firstly I find this Hull AWFUL. Looks to me like WWI Dreadnought, with US civil war ironglad superstructure on it. Why such a stealth warship? This is the first warship on earth without mast!!! If Zumwalt ever copmleted I wonder were they fly their flag? I adore Arleigh Burges. They are real warships, powerful enough and technologicaly at the highest level compared with other navies ships. They have even larger amount of VLS than the Zumhalts. They have 96 VLS, and Zumhalts only 80. Also I dont understand the need of these 6.1 inch railguns. You have Tomahawks for this job and for shorter ranges you have Harpoon BlockII. They have excactly the same range as the rail gun , 140km. Finally I want to ask were is the funel of Zumhalt at the superstructure? I think they forgot the Funel…
