Officially “Greater than 5 miles (8 km)”

This from my second link. OFFICIALLY is more than 8km. That means 50km?
    this is another one link

    http://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_display.asp?cid=2100&tid=900&ct=2
    http://www.militaryfactory.com/munitions/detail.asp?munitions_id=23
    http://www.wikinfo.org/wiki.php?title=torpedo

all of the above links mentione 8km range

    greater than 8km means 8.5, 9, 9.5 NOT 50

A Mk48 has a range of something like 30+ miles so it doesn’t have to come all THAT close.

    YOU ARE WRONG :diablo:

MK 48 has range aprox 8km 30 miles meanS 50 km

for this information (about the range of MK-48)go to:

    http://www.wikinfo.org/wiki.php?title=torpedo
    http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/weaps/mk-48.htm

THERE IS NO TORPEDO WITH 50KM RANGE!

mr. SFERRIN, with 8km or little more your US SSN should come too close and to face udaloys (SS-N-14s & 533mm torpedos + SS-N-15s from Veliki)

On the other hand Ockars are carring SS-N-16 + SS-N-15. Without SS-N-19 Granit the 949 Oscar is able to destroy your CVN-77 SS-N-16(Stallion) has range 100km!! (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/missile/row/ss-n-16.htm). So in compare with Mk-48 (8km+) the 949 with Stallion is much for effective. 😎

Somewhere I found a line drawing of the new russian proposed aircraft carrier but I don’t remember the site. I will try to find it and to post the image. From a first view looks like the Nimitz class, and having “384 VLS stihl” in 4 systems.

On the other hand when you consider Russia only has four or five ships that are worth a damn in AAW Kuznetsov is going to NEED all those defensive missiles. Of course they’ll be worth f–k-all against a couple Mk48s in the gut. But hey at least it’ll look good going down right?

You mean that a “Los Angeles” “Seawolf” or “Virginia” SSN will manage to come too close to the Kuznetsov’s battle group and to fire its Mk 48 heavy torpedoes? At the same base of thinking an “Oscar II” from much more distance will fire a salvo of 24 Granits and destroy the new CVN-77. 😉

France does not have Topol, nor does it have Tu-160, however it has ballistic missile submarines, land based missiles and air-launched nuclear tipped cruise missiles.

    Unicorn

1.Name to me the land baced ballestic missiles of France!

    2. Air launched cruise missiles of France are not strategic, because their range is only 500km

    3. Only USA and Russia have “nuclear triancle” land air, and sea baced nukes, NOT France.

Charles De Gaulle’s antiship capability is vested in the Rafales and Etendards of its air group, which is only proper for an aircraft carrier. Fit all the anti-ship missiles you want to a carrier, they only diminish its capabilities in the most important area, the size, operation and maintenance of its air group.

    Unicorn

In my base of thinking an aircraft carrier is a warship even without its aircraft. The aircrafts, should be only part of the vessel’s armament. CdG, is NOT a warship, is a carrier. Kuznetsov has the Greatest self defence fitted in warship without any counterpart in the world. The only negative is that is NOT nuclear powered.

Ugly? Since when do looks determine how effective a ship is? Bismark and Tirpitz were attractive, Nelson and Rodney were not, however which two survived torpedo and bomb hits to see out World War 2? Effectiveness is what counts, not looks.

This is Unfair comparison. Bismark was COMPLETELY alone with Prince Eugen heavy cruiser, in fighting with the half British Fleet.

Do you agree with Francois 5 that Russia isn’t even a regional power??? Even, Turkey is considered as Regional power by western “think tanks” and Russia is not??

My point of view says that supercarrier considered a vessel more than a 65000t full load. I ‘ve seen a line drawing of a new proposed future russian aircraft carrier and is 20% at least larger than Kuznetsov.

Russia will build 2 supercarriers in 2015 and Kuznetsov will be a flight trainer.

Hope they don’t forget the high sea tugs…
    Remember 2004, Atlantic deployment?
Russia is not a power anymore. Not even regional.

The French Aircraft carrier is most ugly ship in the world. Kuznetsov is state of art!! The “CdGaulle” How much antiship has on it? Is France Regional power? lol. France in font of Russia is nothing, only 580000sq kms! only as the area of Khabarovsk? Has France any Topol -M? Has France any Tu- 160 strategic bombers? The land area of Russia is Greater than the hole EU!

SOME GOOD NEWS!!!!!! KUZNETSOV WILL BE BACK IN ACTION!!

MOSCOW, September 27 (RIA Novosti) – The Admiral Kuznetsov, Russia’s only aircraft carrier, will join the Northern Fleet by the end of the year after modernization, the Navy’s chief said Wednesday.

The ship, also known as Project 1143.5 heavy aircraft carrier, was commissioned in the Russian Navy in 1991 and became fully operational in 1995. But it was plagued by technical problems, including faulty arrester gear, and was put into dock earlier this year for a technical overhaul.

“All preparatory work has been completed on the Admiral Kuznetsov and it will leave port for a combat training mission at the beginning of next week,” Admiral Vladimir Masorin said after a visit on board the ship.

The Navy commander also said that several Su-33 Flanker-D fighters assigned to the aircraft carrier would return to the ship after a brief technical overhaul. The vessel is capable of carrying up to 26 fixed-wing fighters and 24 helicopters.

Russia’s military leadership is considering building several modern aircraft carriers after 2015.

“The Russian Navy will operate several aircraft carriers in future,” Masorin said in February, adding that Admiral Kuznetsov would probably remain in service until 2030.

955 will have only 533 tubes. Perhaps you wanted to say 885 Severodvinsk?

You are right, but is possible for the 955 to carry the klub missile familly? If I am right they can be fitted in 533TTs. The 855 sevederodvinsk has 8 VLS yakhonts, but is possible for them to carry Granats in their TTs along with their Yakhont VLS ?? Why the surface vessels have no ability of lanching SS-N-21?? The 3M54 Klub is considered a limited range (220km) Version of Granat? Talwar ypothetikally, in her 8VLS system has the ability to fit the SS-N-21?
Has nay major surface vessel of the russian navy the ability to carry Granat?

The conversional tomahawk has a range of 1650km and a warhead of 434kg, Yakhond has only 200kg warhead, so it should have a greater range. The Granats are carried by 533TT or 650?

First of all I doubt any 1,000km range Yakhont would be the same size and weight as the current Yakhont. The growth is in size necessary to reach 1,000km would probably make it at least as big as Granit. Would suggest they wouldn’t try to make it bigger to enable it to be used from existing platforms. A scramjet propulsion giving velocities of mach 6 plus would make them very capable weapons and also make lag time between launch and impact less of a problem.

Its diffucult for me to uderstand why tomahawk with the the half of Yakhont’s size has range of 1850km and Yakhont only 180km!!!! I accept that Yakhont is supesonic but it should have at least 600km range. With this range 180km only the missile is completely uselless. The vessel should be too close at the enemy fleet. Such short range weapons are usefull only as air lanched! Before I said that I like Yakhont but should have greater range, more than 400km for being effective.
    Some questions:

Is Brahmos or Yakhont nuclear capable?

    Any details about the GRANIT-2??
