You mention they have money, I guess you haven’t read the previous report of Karlamov going into reserve due to lack of funding (and of course they don’t want to buy new turbines from Ukraine anymore). They still don’t have money and that’s the reality. If Putin wants to make Russia great, then he’ll need a LOT more money than whatever he is having now and the Navy really isn’t his only worry.

UDALOYS are ASW ships, with Kinzal and ak-630 for self protection. Today Russia needs multirole warships. Udaloys the only “positive” thing they have is the gas turbine instead of the STEAM in Sovremmenyys. But they are useless because are quite empty. NO weapons on them, look like the early Spruance, which had only ASROC, MK45 gun and Sea sparrow point AA launcher aft. In other word UDALOYS are 8000t hulls designed to carry the SS-N-14 Silex and nothing more. 8000t is too mutch for an ASW oriented vessel.”Admiral Karlamov” is waste of money to be modernized. They will spend money to modernize karlamov only for having one SS-N-14 floating battery, and nothing more? Udaloys must be scrapped, and Russia to keep only “Admiral Chapanenko” with the SS-N-22. So is obvious that the repairing of Karlamov is waste of money for them. They can invest these money in more usefull miltirole new vessels projects

This is a possible (but if you ask me, very unlikely) upgrade for Nakhimov

For 22350 You are right, NEPRUNE. And i must say that your infos are more accurate than warfare ru. As for Ad. Nakhimov you mean that is more possible to be scrapped as “Admiral Lazarev”?

    RUSSIAN FUTURE MISSILE DDGS

    snake65 How about this one?

My friend snake65 this is an exact copy of “TICODEROGA” in russian “style” this has nothing to do with the new russian frigate. The new russian frigate is a “Huge patrol vessel” of 4000t and i want a more clear line drawing for this . The 22350 is a combination of the 052B chinese DDS and of Krivak FFs. Project 22350 is I thinK FF not FFG. I am little bit older than you I am 25 and I remember in 1996 this line drawing at JANE’S as a attempt of Russia to create a replacement of SLAVAS in two versions CG or DDG. I deeply believe that SLAVA can be replaced by a newer design. Slava is NOT a huge ship is 9000t ship and of cource is NOT kirov. Russian navy needs ships of 9000t
I Want a more detailed picture of 22350 than this.

New russian frigates of 4000-8000t class can be considered sort of “blue water”. Against Japan Russia dont need anything bigger than corvet – SSN’s , Tu-22 and Su-24/34 will take care of any japanese fleet close to russian borders (and of Japan itself too, lol). Also, calling “gunboats” a ship with a 200km range supersonic missiles is, mildly saying, underestimate.

The project 22350 is 4000 or 8000t design. Where is the truth?
Does any one has any image or line drawing of the new “frigate”?

Udaloy III is for export only. What are the other 8000t low cost projects? Do you have any image or information?

Russia after Peter the Great is sea and land oriented country. Do you have any information about the modernization of “Admiral Nakhimov” 080 ? What will incude? New weapons? Neptune mentioned the “Granit 2 ASM. Japan’s navy is more advanced Technically and in size too. Compare “kongo” I & II with Type 45, Horizons, and F 124

    “ADMIRAL NAKHIMOV” RECENT PICTURE

    060412_30.jpg

I don’t think that russian navy has enemies like japanease smuglers but the Japan’s navy. This country wants some russian islands and if you look their navy is much more advanced than any western navy except USN. Just look the “Kongo II” DDG 174. The 20380 hasn’t any AAW even point protection missile system except one KADS-N-1 CIWS. Why you love so much the word “frigate” and you hate the word “cruiser”? The reason of maintaining such a huge navy for Japs is NOT North Korea’s acient missiles and their 1950’s technology of army. North Korean missiles could be shout down even with ESSM, not SM-3. North Korea is NOT a threat for Japan. China has no serious problems with Japan, so Japs even now considers Russia as possible future enemy. Small frigates and corvettes will save Russia?
After the end of their life who will replace “SLAVAS” and “KIROVS”? Project 21630 gun boats?lol The ugly project 20380 “corvrtte”? I think that the frigate 22350 will be a failure as NOVIK before. Which ship will carry long range SAMs? The 22350 frigate of 4000t? The 20380 corvette of 2000t? Or the gunboat Astracan?
Admiral Masorin said that Russia at the future will develop aircraft carriers. “We need 4 of them not 12 as USN” Who will escord them? The gun boats or your LOVELY frigates? RUSSIA is not USA but also RUSSIA is not BALTIC state. Needs Blue water navy as well as patrol boats, not at the numbers that USN navy has but they need them. There is no other solution. Furthermore Putin’s Russia is NOT like was at Yieltsin times. Has enough money and the oil prices will help more the situation.

They need Major surface vessels. I never said that the russian navy should spend all the money to cruisers, but I don’t think that Russia’s dorctine is to be a coast naval force like Sweden, or Norway. Oh! sorry even Norway have the new 5 unit frigate program of 5000 t. Look at Spain with F-100, Germany with F-124 not to mention Netherlands, with the 4 unit of their AAW “Frigate” of 6500t. All these minor European countries have the US dorctine in mind?
I don’t think that they want to protect their own CBG!! Why they develope their own “frigate” named DDGs and Russia only fishing boats like the 20380 “corvette” ? This is not a ship this is a joke!!
Do you have any information about Granit-2 Range, speed, land attack capability?

And also i want to ask about the last project 956U Witch is rumored to be as “gas turbine” combined “Sovremmeny” and the “Admiral Lobov” the forth “Slava” what will happen with them. Russians need them, these two vessels are real warships. The new corvette 20380 is a coast guard, why they hate so much the surface major vessels? Who will protect the “Boreis” and the pr 855 new SSNs? What about the naval version of S-400? Is possible for modernized “Admiral Nakhimov” to carry S-400?. Admiral Masorin must understand that the corvettes 20380 have no value. The 20380 are so valuable as Perrys FFS are for USN. The only need for Russian navy is to have “Russian version” of “ticoderoga” with land attack capability. NO corvettes, NO light frigates, NO patrol boats, NO fishing boats!!
Has the russian navy any serious surface future project? DDG or CG?

ABOUT “ADMIRAL NAKHIMOV” AND “PROJECT 22350” SO CALLED FRIGATES

I am a new member from Greece and i am apologize for my enghlish. I want to ask if sombody has any clear information about the project 22350. I must say that the image in warfare.ru has nothing to do with the reality. Why this surface ship is so “secret” ? Also I want to return at the issue of “Admiral Nakhimov” . Is possible for her to carry SS-N-21 as the russian SSNs?
