Is Bolingbroke 9893 still under restoration for the IWM at Duxford?
Does the Blenheim get much screen time?
In the early ’90s didn’t WOGB acquire B-17G 485778 Miss Angela and plan to operate it in UK? (Heard they planned to name it ‘Sally A’).
And of course in the’80s they briefly owned the Fort that became Thunderbird.
Always seemed to be enough business for Pink Lady and Sally B when ‘Lady was still flying. With ‘Lady mainly on the European main land and Sally B mainly flying in the UK, they didn’t step on each others toes too much. Might be the same if another Fort was based on the European main land.
No mention of a Fort coming to Europe on WIX or Aero Vintage.
Will be sad to see it leave Elvington, but fully understand the reasons for it going.
With the recovery of HR871 and maybe, in the future, LW170, we could see a worldwide population of 5 and a bit. Not bad for a type once considered extinct.
So the plan is to combine the rebuilt Hastings centre section recovered from Malta with whatever they manage to salvage of HR871? Will be interesting to find out how much of HR871 is still down there. Good luck to them, the world needs more Halifaxes.
I was under the impression that this is mostly new build, with the only original section being the extended nose forward of the cockpit. Or is that incorrect? Just as I thought Kermit Weeks owned most of what is left of the original aircraft.
I just think it is amazing that there are B-17s being built from scratch, recovered from swamps, lakes and ice floes, when there are several examples in the States that are rotting away on outdoor display because the USAF won’t let them be released to private groups for restoration.
In 1941??
Like I said, Hollywood history lol
There always seems to be complaints that the USA doesn’t always fully acknowledge the contributions of it’s allies in WW2 (look at Hollywood movies that re-write history like U-571, Ben Affleck winning the Battle of Britain single handedly in Pearl Harbor), yet Pima seems to be getting a load of flack for wanting to display a Spitfire alongside their other British aircraft. Personally I think we have more than enough Spits.
Some great Halifax footage
Glad to hear it. If I am right that will only leave KB839 on display outside?
I’ve always thought the Hercules engined Halifaxes were the best looking British bombers of the war, other than the Mosquito. And the best looking 4 engined bomber after the B-17.
CeBro, the three feet of wing added either side of the fuselage; was this created with wood/fibreglass? Thanks!
