From photos I’ve seen of the insides of the Halifax, the cockpit looks as if its been fully kitted out. The bomb bay is, I believe, just a blanked off space. I’d be happy to be corrected though
If they are moving the Halifax nose out maybe now they could donate it to the Yorkshire Air Museum..
Thanks, much appreciated
I’m sure I read the Hastings wing for the Elvington Halifax were altered, from the round Hastings wing tip to the more square shaped wingtip that was on early Halifax Mk 3s.
Maybe the best thing to do with the useable parts of Liberty Belle’s remains is use them in the rebuild of Don Brooks’ other B-17 (44-83790 I think), the one that was recovered from a lake in Canada
With at least two more B-17s I can think of being restored to airworthy condition
Glad Pink Lady is being kept undercover. Maybe they could offer taxi rides like Just Jane at East Kirkby
Terrible news, but thank goodness no loss of life.
Doesn’t Don Brooks own another B-17 that was recovered from a Canadian lake a few years back?
Is there any chance of BB214 being recovered?
Now that the B-17G restoration ‘Champagne Lady’ in the USA is to wear 401st BG colours, maybe a change to 92nd or 306th BG colours would be a nice change. Or 100th, 384th or 385th BG colours?
Am I right in saying Elly and her team have operated a B-17 for a longer period of time than any other organization (or indeed airforce)? It’s an amazing achievement
I’d just like to see Sally B in the colours of a Bomb Group not yet represented by another surviving B-17. How about the 92nd, 306th, 384th or 385th bomb groups?
But as I’ve said before I’d rather see her flying in movie Memphis Belle colours than grounded. In my opinion she is as important to the UK aviation heritage scene as the BBMF Lanc
Just want to say thanks to bazv and Stan for supplying the pic and the leaflet, both very interesting
CeBro, you said the last complete Halifax was scrapped in Argentina in 1971?
Do you have any more details on this aircraft? I (wrongly) thought until the discovery of W1048 the last known complete Halifax was PN323 in the UK
Great photo.
What were the cowlings and nacelles on the YAM Halifax made from? Wood/fibreglass or more original materials?
Thanks, much appreciated
