I was treated to a wonderful 15 min flying display by ML407 (G-LFIX) yesterday!
Spitfire gave a 15 minute display over Lasham village commencing at 16:30. It was a 50th birthday present for a village resident from his wife! I am 99% certain that it was Carolyn Grace at the controls.
When I left Lasham airfield at 17:00 the Spitfire was re-fueling, so out of sight from the club area.

Plenty of colour, nice shots of the 146’s!

A strange sounding engine is my memory of seeing it flying.
Oh to see a Carvair in BAF colours once more within the UK. Sadly only a minority would understand its value to UK aviation during the 1960’s & 1970’s!
A Freddie Laker memorial?
For a tad under £25 I get 90 minutes non-entertainment watching the Hatters!
£25 for an afternoon watching nice planes fly seems cheap, but nationally spare cash is at a premium.
It was based in Australia operating for a mining company. Returned to Bristow for major servicing, took up VH register at some point. 9G-DAN was another of its later identities. (Some of this is from memory).
His employer is helping with sponsorship of his current world tour. Front for the band, rear for the gear. It was adapted for this configuration at Lasham late last year.

So I guess the reference to Studham Aerodrome and an aerial tow from Dunstable concern this farm strip.
The only Piper accidents that I can recall were the Cub (G-BHUF) at Dunstable and a PA28 that crashed on landing at a private strip to the east of Markyate and the A5 during the mid 1980’s. I think that it ended up in a sewerage farm and exploded on impact as it carrying a drum of aviation fuel in a passenger seat.

Registrations?
No, their identities, I can tell their (probable) Douglas connection?
So sad to see fine airframes rotting in the undergrowth!
What was their history, how have they survived?

Late 1970’s we stayed in a Holiday Home in a 3 story town house. To our rear was a traditional fire escape which as a kid I used frequently as a quick route down rather than the ‘approved’ stairs.
This fire escape being 2 floor up over looked a neighbours garden to the right. Scattered and in good use were many canopies and plexi glass turrets aiding market gardening. I am sure the shed was part of an airframe, but the garden itself was fascinating!
One of the hangars is to be used (if not already) by a military band, the other for parade practice for the Buckingham Palace guards.

Luton Jan 1967

The ‘November Numbers’ DC-6 has visited Luton in the past. It’s interior is rather luxurious according to my Hungarian chum!
