Huh, the US avionics industry is still far ahead of the Israelis

This is more like the Israelis wanting source codes for the US stuff and ability to modify it per their own needs which US wont wanna give, so the emphasis on Israeli made stuff

Touche! But even a downgraded JSF vs a EF will be more potent, as long as its a Nato country, they can get a top level suite

Source code is a different matter, its basically a question of proprietary tech.

Well the Navy’s Seaking’s did suffer dint they???

IAF was looking for -5’s however going by the govt it looks the cheapest option will be chosen.

No- if you notice, the GOI has publically announced that the lowest bidder may not be chosen because political and strategic reasons, plus offset can influence the tender

    Finally some brains

Wow. Thats a lot of knock-offs.

Yup a flood of knock offs of Russian turbojets.

RR , MTU and Snecma are in the league of GE and UT. mass producing a trailing edge engine gives you no real edge over those who produce limited nos of bleeding edge ones. Uk/Fr/Ger dont **need** 4000 plane AFs armed with Mig21 derivatives and other obsolete craft.

“mock” sorties sitting in wooden model craft wont do for NATO

Exactly. Quality over quantity. Anyday. Add actual expertise in Salyut, Klimov, Ufa to fighter engine manufacturers.
Still the preserve of only a handful of manufacturers & countries who can do it on their own without importing other engineers or take two- three decades to build an engine, by reverse engineering.

    Vortex

Yes, many Russian reverse engineered turbojets have been made. All those turbojets that go into the “local” J-7s, J-6, J-5 etc

The WS10 is derived from the earlier WS6 variant, which was abandoned after completion as an engine – 20 years and two engine generations later – in the 1980s.

    Didnt work, i guess

Did they “collide” with each others AAMs?

I for one think that Typhoon would be great for Japan. It is certainly predicted to be a better A2A than the F-35 and is still a good platform for anything else they may need.

Nope.. Bar WVR, in BVR with its VLO, APG-81 AESA and AMRAAM C7, the JSF will be the one to first see and probably kill the EF, its advantages of supercruise (Meteor, and higher weapon launch speed + impact on range) apart, coz latter wont do much of a difference against a stealthy plane that launches first
Also take a look at recent interview of EF marketing manager, ex RAF- F3 Pilot in Norwegian paper, he keeps referring to MIDS and PIRATE as the choice vs JSF/ etc…makes it clear that JSF is stealthy, EF is not..even here JSFs optical suite which is intended to be all aspect wins out..

    Interesting points:

44 years for a turbofan program plus:

Indigenous development and the use of Russian aero-engine experts, as well as knowledge of the AL-31F engine which powers the Su-27, drove further development

The use of the engine in the test aircraft presented its own challenges – the oil tank and afterburner nozzle are larger – but the weakness of the Chinese military industries and shortage of investment exacerbated the problems.

The programme stumbled along between 1992 and 1997 and was further impeded by the move from a state-controlled economy to a more free market economy. In 1997 an accident in engine testing delayed the programme again.

In 2001 and 2002 the WS10 was tested on an Su-27 and in 2003 the People’s Liberation Army’s daily newspaper said that flight tests were under way. An engine failure during a flight in July 2004 put the programme in jeopardy but the aircraft returned on a single engine and an investigation reported that a bearing failure was to blame.

Despite the success in developing the engine, which will be manufactured by Liming Corporation, the powerplant will need to overcome manufacturing challenges if it is to be produced at a worthwhile rate.

Issues remain about production efficiency and quality control and any effort to improve these areas is likely to be hamstrung by bureaucracy.

Definitely worth remembering each time a turbofan discussion comes up.

So thats 20 yrs + 24 (1982– 2006), lot of money spent plus time

OK, is it just me or is there some kind of a coordinated effort on the part of the trolls to try and flame anyting ‘India’ since last week ? All of them try to be subtle and polite and then insert ridiculous statements in the middle of their posts.
Somehow, I dont think the regular set of trolls have the , erm…. lets say dont have the intellectual capacity to do anything similar 😀 , is there proliferation of a different kind happening here ? 😉

    // Only thinking aloud people.

ps. The ‘LCA video with the Barbie song’ has to be commended. I shudder at the retaliation though, why could’nt we all live peacefully 😀 .

Message for the Trolls : If you thought you were in the pits with regards to PR about your country, look what might just happen now. 😀

Dont worry about it. They are doing a lot of good PR and their nation (P ) a big favour:

One dude and his son caught in Lodi California for terror.

Another bunch in the UK for the London bombings.

Another bunch in Aussieland for the serial molestations and then using religion as an excuse- the I word.

Then the retards caught with their hands in the cookie jar with North Korea and Iran.

The other retards crossing the border and attacking the International troops in Afghanistan.

The other retards crossing the border, attacking men, women and kids in India.

Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore saying: that there is a problem with these fellers..

Another fellow attempting to stab a German editor for insulting the I word and then committing suicide a – martyr of course!

Making up for all this actual real world stuff with a few videos is going to be impossible, especially since its going to continue…

Its an interesting exercise to see which country in the world these blokes are not causing a problem to on terrorism charges.

Yes, India is looking for closer ties, but it will normaly do so via exercises and joint training (directed as a warning against regimes who indulged in nuclear proliferation, anti-piracy ops etc etc), basically there are ways to build ties without necessarily purchasing equipment on the scale of complete platforms.
