Thanks pagen, although my ‘knowledgable source’ was Mark Evans of Wellington Z1206 fame, so we are certain they are not Wellington, although similar

Those seats don’t look like anything that would be fitted to a combat aircraft, especially in the cockpit area.

I am led to believe by a very knowledgable source it is quite similar to the pilots seat in a Wellington, albeit with slimmer padding.

wieesso – it was that bottom photograph that got me interested in the first instance, the base looks familiar to the one we have, top seat back however – does not.

    Ah thanks.

Judging by your description of where it was, it doesn’t sound like its moved or had anything done to it since then!

I love that first shot of the Lanc and the two of the Hunter

And the zoomed out shot of the BBMF over the water. It really harks back to the war years, the way they are not in formation as you usually see them – you can really imagine the Lanc limping home after a tough mission with a Spit and a Hurri escorting it to base

    Good stuff

Excellent as always DH. Every time I see that Spitfire with the contra-prop two thoughts cross my mind: 1) that just looks wrong. 2) I hate to think what the weight of another prop did to the CofG.

Every time a see photo of the Team Guinot girls, only one thought crosses my mind!

Well done to everyone who got their results on Thursday. I got my A2 results the week before and was very happy as I can go to uni!

And I also do hate it when the same people every year come on the TV every August and announce that exams are getting easier. That may be, but that isn’t our problem, it’s the government’s, and don’t make it sound like you are belittling the achievements of students who work very hard for their results.

They do work hard, you’re right (note the apostrophe :D). No-one can know whether they are getting easier or not, that is an assumption people make based on overall results. The increasing trend is far more likely to be down to things like wider access to the web and computers and the fact that year-on-year teachers get a better idea of how best to prepare students and what is likely to come up and how that subject should be tackled.

To say they are getting easier, is just lazy thinking. Sadly as the overall results trend increases, it makes the qualification level less and less valid. The only person who wanted to see my GCSE results was my sixth form college. The only people who wanted to see my A-Level results was my Uni. And if you are going for a job that requires a University education, the only thing they will want to see is your degree result. (Or in many cases, just the fact that you have one)

If anyone out there didn’t get the results they needed, don’t worry. I did mine in ’99, got 3 B’s, 8 C’s and a D. Now, I’m on the verge of becoming a Chartered Surveyor, so it isn’t necessarily as bad as it looks now, if you didn’t get the grades

Sounds like Philh has got it.

I’m tempted to agree. Presumably would have been an air strip as well if it was a Maintenance Unit? Strangle if it was, as I’ve not got it down as one.

    Steve

Edit – Just read that quote from the BBC site, sounds like it was not an airfield

wcfcfan, it was just a factory, but wondering if the aviation link was what his friend might be on about.

Was / is Half Penny Green in the area? That was an old WWII airfield.

You mean ‘Wolverhampton International Business Spaceport’ as someone on here referred to it not long ago 😀 Sorry, I forget who it was, or I would have quoted you.

As stated above, its near Wolverhampton.

u wont be able to in the screen shot, but thats the area he gave me and told me too look west of middleton and up the M62, there is litterally just a tiny bit of grass and he said it was the only remains of the airfield

I didn’t mean I was looking at the screen shot! 😀

Pagen – was there a strip at Chadderton or was it just a factory which shipped fuselages out by road to Woodford? In any case, Scott’s friend should know, because its a BAe site now?

Down the M62 is X4HD Huddersfield, thats still an airstrip though.

Ah, I think I have it. Do you mean Middleton south of Leeds? If so, X0MI Middleton, WWI use only, strip opened in 1916, located just off Ring Road Middleton, now housing, football pitches and some warehousing. I can’t find any other history than that

Quite a long way from Middleton, Manchester though!
