WOW, that top shot is a killer. Nice to see that B-17 with escorts.
Great set of pictures! Thanks!
No photos of it in military service I’m afraid but here’s one of G-ASIP, as she was, at Shoreham in the 1960s.
I understood that this one was written off in a hangar fire at Nympsfield, so it’s a welcome case of another Auster making a remarkable recovery. 🙂
Wicked Willip :diablo:
There’s no fire damage visible. The fuselage has already been worked on before the project was bought. No doubt they want her flying again and with the dedication these people show I think it will be within some years again.
Thank you for the photo! Who is to credit for it?
Joe,
thank you for the feedback.
I noted two set’s of wings stacked up in the T2 hangar at Leicester recently.
One set were from Aiglet G-AMTD, (short span), and I ‘am reasonably sure the other set were ex Auster as well.
Any idea what wings they are exactly?
My friends are working on re-storing a Auster 6A Tugmaster into flying condition again.
They have 2 right wings but need a left wing to complete the airframe. I think they are willing to trade that additional right wing.
Besides an engine the airframe is pretty complete now allthough the pictures may look different. 🙂
For the researchers: its former VF-608/G-ASIP. When in military service it operated for the British Embassy in The Hague and was based at former Ypenburg air base.
If one of you has old photos from her back than please let me know.
Cheers, André

Some lovely shots there. Thanks.
André1967 your Username seems French, I’m wrong?
Actually, I am from the Netherlands.;)
Yes, the mentioned “Friends of the Groupes Lourds” might be able to provide additional information about that specific mission and a possible participation of your uncle.
Cheers, André
Indeed, the Err error should have a code attached.
Have you tried with different lenses attached on the camera body?
If the error still comes up last thing you could do is clean the little metal pins in the body mouth which connect with the lens. They easily collect dirt and may cause a connection malfunction.
Great thread so like many others I hope this stays here on line. Its great to see that history is still alive even after 65 years so I wish Sandra good luck finding the information she is looking for and thank all others who provide such, especially Kev35. Well done!
There’s not much I can to this discussion rather than adding that 346 squadron was busily engaged during the D-Day Ops. 12 aircraft of this unit bombed the secret German battery near Maisy in the night between 5 and 6 June 1944. A plaque was added on 2nd June 2009 to remember this attack.
I guess Sandra’s relative might have been involved in that attack.
Here some of the pictures I snapped during my visit to Normandy past June.

More about the Maisy battery can found here:

Don,
april and may might be a little early for airshows in Europe. May is the month that may have a few but most of it starts in June.
Depending on what kind of aircraft you like you might want to visit La Ferté Alais in France which has a respectable amount of historical aircraft which they pull out during their show. Most of the time this show is around White Monday (23 May 2010 next year).
Duxford may have an early show in May but I am not sure.
For museums, there are many interesting around like Duxford, Gatow (Berlin), Soesterberg, Brussels.

Found this fascinating article…anybody care to offer up an opinion???
A couple of months back when an Airbus landed in the Hudson river, it was considered world’s best airliner.
How media easily changes its opinion……
Its been a few weeks back but here some of mine. Flying in at such events does have its privileges as access to flight line is included. 😉

Thanks guys. Been lurking too long.
