A job well done! I am surprised they managed to get it ready within 4 years only.
Thanks for the responses. I’m hopeful there may yet be someone will come forward who recognises exactly what this is. I don’t plan to put it on another forum, as this would mean registering with another forum. I would be happy for you to post there Andre if you are willing to do so, with a link to this forum. That might just work!
Ian, I will give it a try and let you know if something comes up.
You may wanne put your question at http://www.tomcat-sunset.org/forums/index.php as well. They have many old Grummies around who should be able to answer your question.
Australia – Hawaï or Amarg – Hawaï:
Still a pricy thing just to get an aircraft to a museum.
A bit weird that they are able to spend 3 C-17 flights to get it to Hawaï, especially when looking at the sequester trouble going on.
Sorry to hear of his passing.
After some more reading on these telegraph pages I also found this message:
Yes, with French markings!!
it was in ‘Le Bourget’ … but in what year ??
friendly,
Etienne
My best guess would be June 1975. Back than 71-0291, TF-15A, JTF/MDD was there as well a USN F-14 Tomcat. Both F-15 and F-14 were in stiff competition for foreign buyers.
I can’t read the serial on your picture.

Thank you for pointing at this link.
Sadly the original had a wrong serial. Fixed it. :p
OW MUCH??!! I have got a pension fund then after all :D:D
Roger Smith.
Owing stuff and cashing in are two separate things. LOL
Okay, I am on my way to the salvation army again. :p
Sandy,
you may have to write down the subjects including serial numbers, or even scan some of the collection. Its a load of work but surely will pay off when you sell stuff like this.
Slides easily make up to 5 GBP each depending on subject and quality.
I am still searching for images of our Auster mk.6 former RAF serial VF608 so if you find some….:D:D
A remarkable story! Thanks.
André
A visit to RAF Hendon museum may pay off as well.
They have an Austin K2 Ambulance on display as well some other vehicles.
It amazes me that content like this is for free on line.
Looks like a good piece but still have to read all of it.
One question came up quickly: Was the RAF F-111 ever used in combat as well? I am a complete non-expert on RAAF history so please forgive me for asking.
I know the USAF F-111s had some bussiness in the Middle East at times.
Just a wild guess, but China did some nucleair tests in the past. I am sure the RAF would monitor those? Although most of the latest tests were underground I would not be surprised if aircraft checked for contamination in the air and sea regions around Hong Kong.
