Not sure if these were NATO bases but places like De Peel and Ahlhorn had some kind of a reserve bases back than.
NATO did pay as well for additional shelter areas at existing airfields which could host the fighters coming in from CONUS during a Cold War scenario.
I don’t have all but these were in volved:
Gilze Rijen
Jever
Honington
Must be the same Milk Man That I uesd !
If stuff is flying arond your milk you’d better get rid of it. 😀
Here’s a bit of how the real thing looks like.
Nice pix despite the tough light conditions.
I posted it at their forums. 😉
I only have an Auster AOP.6 manual and wonder whether the J-5 had the same mounting system. Maybe the Auster experts are able to answer that question?
We have the original mounting somewhere stored in the hangar and I can search for it if required.

Thank you for your confirmation as well!
That is Gutersloh 100%, the current tower was built on top of the curved end of the block between the hangars. Normally the airfield id letters are presented within a square but I guess they made an acception for this German airfield, you can see the signals square next to it.
Interestingly the circle is still there and visible on Google Earth.
Fantastic picture thanks for posting it.
Here’s involved photo.
RAF Gütersloh seems like a good guess.
The big white tent shows “NAAFI” on top of it.

Am curious to see ‘a copy of the picture’ 😉
Me too. Please be patient as the guy who has the picture is close to 80 years of age so digitalizing stuff may require some time.
Just a suggestion GUTERSLOH GERMANY large base for a long time before the army took over
Thanks guys!
My first idea was Germany Sennelager of similiar but I guess the code did not mention the country like ICAO does later on.
For the researchers: its former VF-608/G-ASIP. When in military service it operated for the British Embassy in The Hague and was based at former Ypenburg air base.
If one of you has old photos from her back than please let me know.Cheers, André
No photos of it in military service I’m afraid but here’s one of G-ASIP, as she was, at Shoreham in the 1960s.
I understood that this one was written off in a hangar fire at Nympsfield, so it’s a welcome case of another Auster making a remarkable recovery. 🙂
Wicked Willip :diablo:
This project is still making progress although its moving slowly.
The RAF Air Historical Branch was able to deliver the name of the Air Attaché who used the plane at British Embassy between 10 Nov 1949 and 25 October 1951. Its former Group Captain (later Air Commodore) John M.D. Ker. I wonder if it would be possible to track down some of his relatives/children assuming that Air Commodore passed away since.
We’re still looking for a photo of VF608 in the markings used in above period of time. Maybe one of his kids has it?
Looks like a job well done!
You’ve got me intrigued Andre. What aircraft is the engine for?
Not for one of these is it?
One of my friends thinks it looks good for his Pietenpol Aircamper project. Especially one of the earlier models Mikron. I doubt finding a Mikron I would be possible but a II or III is hopefully not too tough.
A nice piece of engine you have there yourself. Very nice!
Found her at Twenthe airshow 1996.

Thought I had it but that little tiger logo showed up on XV701 as well back in July 1997. Still searching.
