Oh to have captured a photo like that!!
Can’t remember my 21st but on my 18th I was working as a gardener and they decided to get me drunk by pretending that my work mate couldn’t hold his drink-classic trick! After a ride to the boss’s house in the back of his bedford van I had a coffee then rode home on my pushbike. Still half cut I ended up in someones hedge!
Hmmm, might just have to pick this up! I recently came across a 2005 issue with a feature on Mustang named Princess Elizabeth-great story!
Can anyone tell me what the twin engine biplane,in blue, that was shown in connection with Ron Ballantine and his wife? I’m not sure they mentioned it.
Thanks for the heads up Joey,am watching it now on the iPlayer. Imperial Airways, Croydon! First in-flight movie 1925-great stuff!
Larry66, I think it was G-AGTM, dH 89A Rapide, it made several appearances throughout the programme ! May be a photo link below (if it works) ?

Keith.
Ah thanks Keith, that’s the one! Quite a pretty thing, especially in that livery!
Great stuff! Something I think a lot of people, myself included, wouldnt normally think about! so its great that they are now going to be part of a display which will increase people’s awareness of past events!
Not even dropping paratroopers over France during the Normandy landings? A Bridge Too Far?
(I’m watching Band of Brothers on DVD at the moment, and I can’t help but think of the Dak as a significant combat aircraft!)
Oh absolutely! i think i’m going from childhood memories, planes on the ceiling, and really, Airfix models were all about Spitfires, Hurricanes and 109s when i was a teenager-I never saw a Dak in an Airfix box, and kids are impressionable. I did have one civillian plane on my ceiling tho, a constellation airliner, in white!
I’d sure like a model Dak now, and even better, a flight in one(never been in a plane, yet!)
Tell that to david Lord V.C., amongst others.

Oh I wouldnt dare, I love the plane and understand the huge part it played in(and after) the war!
My dad, who was in the army, once laughingly told me that the Dakota was the only plane that flapped its wings!
To keep the u/c legs a reasonable length/weight/strength ratio with that huge prop.
John
Oh i think I see now! With a conventional wing profile and a huge prop, said prop might hit the deck on landing!
Fabulous shots! I love all those engine pics, yummy!! Oh how i wish i’d gone into engineering when younger!
Lovely shot of a lovely plane Anna! Its funny but with its upside down gull wing it always reminds me a little of a Stuka! Anyone care to tell me why it has such a distinct wing profile? Something to do with landing on a carrier?
MK9 Spitfire.
Good choice (BTW I just noticed your username change!)
I’ve also have a soft spot for the Dakota, tho I dont see that as a war plane for some reason!
I’m particularly fond of this one.
Or are we talking aircraft or aeroplanes?
Moggy
Ha ha,funny, I thought plane (or ‘plane) was short for aeroplane,or is it airplane?
Picked it up today from Smith’s,looks great! The supplement is superb!
In the mag is a profile for rather nice P38 Lightning with a rather saucy nose decoration!
