Just read a news item in Flypast, showing another Vulcan, XL319 at Sunderland, tipping nose upward due to snow on the tail-looks like its in mid take off!
I do hope they raise the £££, I know that if I was a multi millionaire i’d just give em the rest of the cash, just like that!
I just watched the Zeppelin piece. Quite amazing for 1929! It had a feel of a Jules Verne story-rather like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. In fact thinking about it I could see potential for a movie in the story- it has the lot really, even a doomed romance! They could use Lady Grace’s closing words for the title, The Luckiest Girl in the World!
would that be ‘319 at NEAM by any chance?
Ah sorry yes, I just realised that’s the one I was reading about!
Another cool looking plane i’d not heard of till now-great pics! Who was the manufacturer?
Hmm,wouldn’t mind these!
Manufactured by Douglas… more info here…

Ah thanks Peter,i need a decent book on aircraft! (I have the Observer’s Book of aircraft coming soon which will help!)
Check the Gibralter Philatelic Bureau website, not allowed to give you the link!;)
What you mean, not allowed to show the link?
Good news as no longer missing, it does make you wonder how many wrecks and loved ones are still out there to find and that 60+ years later they are still finding them.

Yea I was thinking the same. Good stuff, here’s to future finds!
No show at Sunderland?
Thanks guys,I’ll check those out!
The Douglas Skyshark (on the Skyraider thread).
Again, heard of but never seen. What an extraordinary-looking beast that is!
Hmmm,I was expecting an ugly looking thing, but it looks quite conventional in the link Tropic Thunder provided.
That link reminded me of a question, what is target towing? Is it a training exercise where targets are carried across the sky for trainers to shoot at?
Well a recent surprise for me was reading about the Bolton Paul Defiant, a fighter with a turret gu and no forward firing cannon, what were they thinking! Funny thing is is used to live in south sttaffordshire, just up the road from the Dowty Bolton Paul facttory!
Well, it got uglier as time went on… check out the SB.3 variant..

And you’re right about target towing!
Ah thanks! And yes, that’s some nose! Or is it a chin…?
OK, another new bird on me. I just checked some other pics of this one-am I right, am i seeing twin props on the nose??
Ah nice, the original concorde! I saw a docu. on this on what was then Discovery Wings-(since changed to Discovery turbo)
Good stuff!
